Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Nikon Z 14-30mm f4.0 S is a compact ultra-wide angle zoom designed for Nikon’s full-frame Z-series mirrorless cameras. It employs a retracting mechanism to reduce its size when not in use and also features weather-sealing. There's a customizable control ring, the focusing is quick and quiet, while both focus breathing and focus shift when zooming are minimized.
Pros
  • Ultra-wide angle zoom
  • Automatic autofocus
  • Fully retractable
  • Weather-sealing
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • No fluorine coating
  • Focus breathing and focus shift when zooming

Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S is sharp and compact with a weather-sealed design. It carries a slightly higher price point than F-mount lenses, but it's a unique focal length you can't get elsewhere. We also liked the smooth and quiet autofocus that was great for both stills and video.
Pros
  • Sharp and quiet autofocus
  • Compact, weather-sealed design
Cons
  • No focus distance scale

pcmag[3]

Reviewer score 88% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Nikon Nikkor Z 14-30mm f/4 S is the first native ultra-wide zoom for the system. There's no visible barrel distortion, which is all but certainly a result of software lens corrections. It's exceptionally compact and light if you're used to similar lenses to similar SLR systems.
Pros
  • Compact design
  • Wide-angle zoom
  • Dust and splash protection
  • Front filter
Cons
  • Vignette at wide angles
  • No fluorine coating

techradar[4]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is a very capable addition to the S line. With its compact build, great finish, light weight and swift and virtually silent autofocus system, it's a lovely lens to handle and operate. Sharpness is still good at the 30mm end, and consistent at smaller apertures, although not quite as bitingly sharp as we might want from a lens with this kind of price tag.
Pros
  • Great build quality
  • Fully silent autofocus
  • Flexible barrel
Cons
  • Vignetting at wide-angle end
