Product Overview

Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM is a wide-angle zoom lens for Canon RF-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Canon in 2019, it has 16 elements in 12 groups.
Like most zoom lenses, the Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS USM is externally-zooming. For incremental weathers, Canon is kind enough to include weather sealing.
The f/2.8 maximum aperture is quite bright for a wide-angle zoom lens and can be quite valuable for night photography, though an ultra wide-angle lens may prove more interesting. It can also be quite interesting for landscape and general photography. The built-in image stabilization can be useful for some handheld video work and for low-light stills.

Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Canon RF 15-35mm f2.8L IS USM is the first ultra-wide lens in the native EOS R mount and a key model for the system. Like other high-end RF lenses, it performs very well whether you’re shooting near or far, taking photos or filming video. The new RF version is almost identical in size, similar in weight and in the majority of my tests also delivered very close results. It does however benefit from zooming a little wider at the short-end while also now including optical stabilisation which, while modest in my tests, still allowed me to handhold shutter speeds slower than without.
Pros
  • Wide coverage
  • Optical stabilisation
Cons
  • Price-premium over the EF version

digitalpicture[2]

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitalpicture have found:
The Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM Lens is the only native ultra-wide-angle choice. The EF lens has a modestly lower price, but factoring the adapter in reduces the difference a bit. The RF lens has less geometric distortion at the wide end and the EF lens shows less peripheral shading at 35mm and when stopped down.
Pros
  • Sharp images at the wide end and at the long end
  • Excellent image stabilization system
  • Long focus ring rotation
Cons
  • No 5-stop image stabilization feature

pcmag[3]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM lives up to the expectations that come from the L series. It's built to withstand the rigors of use by pros, whether it be event photography, reportage, travel, or landscape. The lens delivers strong results through f/16, and is at its sharpest at f/8.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality at f/2.8 and f/4.8
  • Optical stabilization is included
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Larger aperture than other L-series lenses
