History

SiteGround is a web hosting company founded in 2004 in Bulgaria. It provides shared hosting, cloud hosting, email hosting, and domain registration services to consumers. It serves over two million domains worldwide.

Infrastructure

In 2020, SiteGround has six data centers in six countries: Iowa United States, London United Kingdom, Eemshaven Netherlands, Frankfurt Germany, Singapore, and Sydney Australia. Since 2020, these are based on Google Cloud.
Thanks to Google's SSD persistent storage, data on SiteGround are not stored on a single machine, preventing data loss in case of failure. Google's infrastructure also makes SiteGround's service more scalable.

Services

On its servers, SiteGround runs CentOS (a Linux distribution), Apache (HTTP server), Nginx (reverse proxy), MySQL (relational database), PHP, and WHM/cPanel. As such, SiteGround is tuned to serve websites built with PHP-based frameworks such as WordPress, Joomla, Magento, Drupal, and PrestaShop, etc.
Cloudfalre CDN with Railgun is included in all plans, which covers 194 locations worldwide.
