Neofiliac June 2020 Update: YouTube Gallery Integration + Secure 3rd-Party Sign-In (Google & LinkedIn) + New Comment Section
Neofiliac has rolled out new features this week that aim at improving and enriching the user experience, the information delivery, and the interactions. Three main additions include the integration of YouTube Gallery, the support of Secure Third-Party Sign-ins (via Google and LinkedIn), and the addition of Comment Sections for Articles, Companies, and Products.
YouTube Gallery Integration
Images and videos carry more information that words alone can deliver. In order to present more pertinent product information more precisely, without wasting our user's value time and attention, we have integrated YouTube videos to the product galleries.
On load, all YouTube videos display just like images in the gallery, properly sized to fill the "mosaic" gallery space. On window resize, they will resize to ensure proper fit at any display size and orientation.
Once you click on the video, the lightbox opens and the video will be displayed alongside the images in a full-screen gallery. The video on focus is also playable. The user can flip through the video-gallery using the arrows to the left and to the right of the video / image on focus. Alternatively, the thumbnails to the right work as shortcuts.
When more thumbnails than can be displayed on a single page exist, the thumbnail section becomes scrollable. When more than can be loaded at once (16 images + 8 videos) exist, a "Load More" button will appear. Please note that on narrow screens the thumbnails may be hidden.
Keyboard shortcuts, including the arrow keys and the escape key, work as expected for the video-gallery.
Please also note that videos are served by YouTube (owned by Google). Neither the thumbnails nor the videos are directly served by Neofiliac.
Sign In with Google & LinkedIn
Managing an ever-expanding list of passwords is a chore that many have developed an aversion to. To help alleviate the pain and to make life easier for our users, Neofiliac has introduced third-party sign-ins.
We follow the OAuth guidelines and ensure the sign-ins are safe. To protect the privacy of our users, we only request the email address of the user from the third-party sign-in providers and nothing else. Here is how it works:
- If you already have a Neofiliac account registered to the same email address, you will be logged in without the need to enter your Neofiliac password. However, you will not be able to update your Neofiliac password when logged in this way.
- If you are new to Neofiliac, an account will be created to you and directly accessible (no activation needed). The account will be associated with your email address. Later, if you so desire, you can create a Neofiliac password using the "Recover Lost Password" function.
We do not store any other information from the third-party sign-in providers.
Currently, we support sign in with Google and LinkedIn. Please note that both have daily authorization limits (which are considerably high). You can contact us on LinkedIn if you continue to experience difficulties.
Comment Section for Articles, Companies, and Products
The comment section serves as forums for users to interact with each other. Unlike the Review or the Q&A sections, a user can add any number of comments and replies as s/he wishes.
Comments will be shown as threads, and replies are displayed as children in each thread. Threads are initially collapsed and can be expanded on demand.
Needless to say, only members who have logged in can participate in the discussion. Please note that the comment section is not moderated. Spams will be periodically deleted.
