The Legacy of Mach 1

Mustang Mach 1 was a performance-oriented option package that debuted for the 1969 model year, delivering improved handling dynamics and performance. It continued to see improvements but remained more attainable than the Shelby and Boss variants. Due to the success that the Mach 1 enjoyed, the GT model was discontinued after 1969.
The Mach 1 started with a V8-powered SportsRoof (fastback) body and added numerous visual and performance enhancing components. Most notable was the small-block 351 cu in (5.8-litre) V8 that produced 250 horsepower with a 2-barrel carburetor or 290/300 bhp with a 4-barrel carburetor, while a big-block 428 cu in (7.0-litre) V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor that produced 335 bhp was also available.
The legacy continued with the facelifted first-gen Mustang in 1971, while the Mach 1 was reimagined as a hatchback when the 2nd-gen Mustang was launched in 1974.
Mach 1 made a brief return in for the 2003 and 2004 Model Years with upgraded braking, suspension, and aerodynamics as well as visuals.
