Product Overview

Land Rover Discovery Sport 2 (chassis code L550) is a compact crossover in production from 2019. It is available with a range of inline-3 and inline-4 engines that displaced 1.5 to 2.0 liters.
Compared to the original Discovery Sport, the Mk2 uses the exact same chassis with a FWD platform. The engines have been updated but not fully replaced. The same troublesome ZF 9HP automatic transmission is used.
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, will appreciate the approach, departure, and breakover angles that the chassis offers. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Land Rover Discovery Sport uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 57% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
LTP-certified figure of 39.6mpg, while CO2 emissions stand at 187g/km. There’s a hint of mid-range punch when you plant the throttle, but the rate at which this heavy SUV gathers pace is unequivocally relaxed. The Discovery Sport also handles very well indeed. Not in a sporty fashion, but with plenty of quiet confidence. On optional 21in wheels, the Discovery Sport has a tendency to sniff out ruts and bumps.
Pros
  • Fantastically smooth and refined engine
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Lack of straight-line performance
  • Cheap to run

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 64% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Discovery Sport replaced the Freelander in the Land Rover range in 2014. Prices for the Discovery Sport start from around £32,000 for the entry-level model. The priciest Discovery Sport – the P300e plug-in hybrid version in R Dynamic HSE specification – comes to roughly £51,000.
Pros
  • Excellent off-road capability
  • Competitively priced
Cons
  • No seven-seater option
  • Alternatives offer more standard kit

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The Discovery Sport P300e is a plug-in hybrid version of the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Running on its own battery system and featuring over the air updates, the new package is significantly quicker to operate with far less lag than its predecessor. Overall power is rated at 305bhp, with a 398lb ft slug of torque. Charging the 15kWh lithium-ion battery pack is relatively time efficient, too.
Pros
  • Powerful plug-in hybrid
  • Easy to drive
Cons
  • Not the most fun to drive

cnet[4]

Reviewer score 57% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
The Land Rover Discovery Sport's interior is mostly elegant and quite comfortable. Its second-row seat is seriously spacious, with plenty of room and firm cushions for all-day support. Cruise control with a speed limiter is standard, but adaptive cruise control is optional. The Discovery Sport doesn't come with much standard equipment.
Pros
  • Stylish interior
  • Comfortable second-row seats
  • Excellent infotainment
Cons
  • Lack of standard equipment
