External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 55% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
After a disastrous performance in 2020 in which its sales dived 68%, the Japanese firm is looking towards the sixth-generation Outback. At the heart of the new Outback is a heavily reworked version of its predecessor’s naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder boxer petrol engine. The interior is more spacious than before and has received a marginal increase in load capacity, while an 11.6in portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen heads a long list of technology updates.
Pros
  • Improved ride and refinement
  • Improved infotainment system
  • Decent handling
Cons
  • More expensive than its predecessor
  • Lack of refinement

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
The Outback Wilderness rides like an even more plush Outback, soaking up potholes. It maintains the relatively sharp turn-in and responsive feel of a Legacy. The interior is comfortable and roomy, front or back, with 32.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats.
Pros
  • Excellent off-road performance
  • Comfortable, roomy interior
  • Good fuel economy
Cons
  • Lackluster infotainment system
  • Expensive for what you get

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
2.5-liter boxer-four from the Forester, making 182 hp and 176 lb-ft. The turbocharged engine's extra power was a godsend when overtaking other vehicles. Despite being smaller and having a lower center of gravity, the Outback also didn't have the Ascent's cornering prowess.
Pros
  • Powerful turbo-four
  • Comfortable ride
  • Powerful engine
Cons
  • Lack of tech
  • Lacks driver-assist tech
