Product Overview

Volkswagen ID.5 is a compact battery-electric crossover in production from 2021. It is powered by electric motors from 109hp to 204hp aided by a battery capacity of 82kWh.
Essentially, the ID.5 is the hunchback variant of the ID.4 that the Germans like to market as "coupe". As such, it is uglier and less practical while offering nothing in return.
Volkswagen has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.26 coefficient of drag to show for it. Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Volkswagen ID.5 uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.
A plus is the small 10.2m (33.5ft) turning circle.

autoexpress[1]

Reviewer score 49% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Volkswagen ID.5 GTX is a sleeker hot electric SUV that offers stylish looks, solid dynamics and performance. It uses the same powertrain as the ID.4 GTX, which means up to 295bhp and four-wheel drive when needed, so 0-62mph should take an equally swift 6.2 seconds. However, compared with the 800V electronic architecture Hyundai's E-GMP tech offers, the GTX's maximum charging rate is only 125kW.
Pros
  • Stylish looks
  • Good range
Cons
  • Fiddly infotainment
