Product Overview

Alfa Romeo Stelvio (Tipo 949) is a compact crossover in production from 2017. It is available with a range of inline-4 and V6 engines that displaced 2.0 to 2.9 liters.
Sharing its drivetrain largely with the Giulia (952), the Stelvio has the trunk removed and a few inches of fat thrown in. As such, it handles worse and is less efficient, but some consumers have been convinced that this is the 21st-century way.
For most drivers, the diesel is the more robust option, while the V6-powered Quadrifoglio is a much superior alternative that will break down more often.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Alfa Romeo Stelvio comes with double-wishbone at the front and multi-link at the rear. Combined with RWD, this setup provides one of the best handling characteristics and tuning capabilities.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 45% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
Even in mid-range form, the Stelvio is agile, poised and grippy for a mid-sized SUV. It's got a slightly busy, firmish low-speed ride and, at least until you’re used to the directness and feel of the fast but muted steering, it’s not the most instinctive car to guide down the road. Wired smartphone mirroring for both Apple and Android handsets is standard through a USB 2.0 port.
Pros
  • Sleek looks and feel
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lacklustre low-speed performance
  • Slightly over-sensitive brake pedal

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Stelvio shares a platform with the Giulia saloon, and is part of a revival the brand is currently in the middle of to make it a viable alternative to the Germanic norm. The model range comprises of Super, Sprint, Lusso Ti and Veloce trims, while at the top is the Quadrifoglio version. All cars come in a standard five-door SUV body, although it's curvy enough that the lack of coupe-SUV in the line-up isn't an issue. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox are standard on all UK cars, the only exception being if you spec the 187bhp 2.2-litre diesel unit.
Pros
  • Sleek styling
  • Fastest petrol and diesel engines
Cons
  • No coupe-SUV in the line-up

carwow[3]

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carwow have found:
The Stelvio costs a good chunk less than the Mercedes GLC and Audi Q5. Like the Jaguar, the interior gives you the sensation that you're in a sports car rather than an SUV. You sit closer to the road than in many alternatives, giving you a better feel of the car. The 525-litre boot is big enough for a week away with the family, but it's not the biggest in class.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Lots of standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of infotainment
  • Not the most fun to drive
