Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz SL R230 facelift is a flagship mid-size luxury convertible in production from 2006 to 2008, whereupon it received another facelift. It was available with a range of V6, V8, and V12 engines that displaced 3.5 to 6.0 liters.
Compared to the pre-facelift R230 SL-Class, the first facelift introduced minor changes. Notably, the new 7-speed 7G-Tronic automatic transmission replaced the 5G-Tronic unit for the SL350 and SL500. This is generally less reliable than the older transmission. With this change, Mercedes also moved to M272 and M273 engines for these cars respectively. Unfortunately, these are the engines that had balance shaft and idler gear problems and are notorious for being unreliable.
The AMG models and the SL600 remained the same.
