Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet A217 facelift is a flagship full-size luxury convertible in production from 2017 to 2020. It was available with a range of V8 and V12 engines that displaced 4.0 to 6.0 liters.
Compared to the pre-facelift A217, the facelift got ride of the beloved 5.5L M157 AMG V8 in favor of the down-sized hot-V 4.0L M177 unit. Still, as Mercedes forces AWD on the S63 AMG, one can simply ignore this change.
The V12 is still the M279 engine, though Mercedes discontinued it before the end of the production run of the A217 as it cannot meet EU's ridiculous emission standards. This is a positive thing, as future buyers on the used market can avoid a lot of pain if befallen into the reliability issues linked to Euro 6d.

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The UK won't take the S450 six-cylinder models, so you're restricted to one of this brawny trio. Any one of these soft-top S-classes provides serious grunt; even the slowest is as quick as many Porsches. The changes wrought to the AMG twins make them impressively sharp for what remain big, heavy cars (the S65 tops out at 2.3 tonnes)
Pros
  • Powerful V8-powered V8
  • Punchy infotainment system
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Lack of rear-wheel drive
