Product Overview

Bentley Continental GT Mk1 is a mid-size luxury coupe in production from 2003 to 2010. It was available with two tunes of the VW/Audi W12 petrol engine that displaced 6.0 liters in twin-turbo form. The only transmission was the 6-speed ZF 6HP26A, which sends power to all four wheels.
Based on VAG's D1 platform, the Continental GT shared many parts with the Volkswagen Phaeton. There was also a sedan version of roughly the same car, the Continental Flying Spur. The D1 platform was an evolution of the D2 platform, which powered the original Audi A8, though it is steel, rather than aluminum, based.
Unfortunately, the Continental GT became synonymous with the nouveau riche, footballers, and rappers. Its exterior styling also didn't age well. Another unfortunate choice was the use of the D1 platform, hanging the heavy W12 engine in front of the front axle. This made for a front-heavy ride with industry-leading unreliability and extreme difficulty in repairs.
With a 16.6L/100km (14.2mpg) fuel "dis-economy", owners have to be prepared to pay for their "smiles-per-mile".

Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
Think of the Speed as a big GT GTi. It's still offers the same luxury appeal as the original Conti GT launched in 2003, but looks meaner and goes harder. The highlights are an extra 50bhp for the big W12, lowered suspension, tasty new and wider alloys plus some subtle visual tweaks.
Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Bigger and better engines
Cons
  • Less spacious than the regular GT
  • More expensive than the original GT
