Product Overview

Land Rover Range Rover Velar (chassis code L560) is a mid-size crossover in production from 2017 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-4, V6, and V8 engines that displaced 2.0 to 5.0 liters.
Slotted above the RR Evoque but below the RR Sport, the RR Velar is the fourth vehicle to bear the Range Rover name, all but the original derivative models. The Velar was only briefly available with the JLR Supercharged V8, which is rather sweet, unfortunately, before its cancellation. Otherwise, it is a disappointing vehicle drivetrain-wise.
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, will be surprised to find that the crossover has reasonable approach, departure, and breakover angles.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The standard Velar is already well regarded for its beauty, so changes to the styling have been carefully made. The SVAD gets new bumpers: in front they incorporate a more prominent splitter, extra lower air intakes and a new, higher airflow grille. Interior changes are similarly carefully judged. Land Rover designers are proud of their car’s minimalist philosophy, and in the SVAD this is maintained.
Pros
  • Powerful V8 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent off-road performance
Cons
  • Lacklustre handling

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 62% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Velar is a refined cruiser, with wind and engine noise well suppressed. The cabin can't quite match a full-spec Range Rover for accommodation, but there's much more space than in the baby Evoque. It isn't quite as sharp in corners as the X4, and it wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun on a back road as the (admittedly petrol-only) Porsche Macan.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lack of off-road capability
  • Pricier than rivals

carmagazine[3]

Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The Velar starts at £44,830 and tops out at £85,450 (for the specced-up-to-the-eyeballs limited ‘First Edition’ The Velar is really a long-distance GT dressed as an SUV. It cruises fast and clean through the air with little noise, little effort and loads of style.
Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Powerful V6
  • Stylish interior
Cons
  • Nothing in particular
