Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz ML-Class W164 is a mid-size crossover in production from 2005 to 2008, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of V6 and V8 engines that displaced 3.0 to 6.2 liters. All models used 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission with standard AWD.
The most exciting engine was undoubtedly the M156 6.2L (marketed as 63) naturally-aspirated V8. However, this engine has a number of reliability issues and is only meant for enthusiasts. More reliable was the M113 found in early ML500s. Unfortunately, Mercedes replaced this engine with the more powerful M273, which had problems in early production years. Another great option was the ML420CDI with the V8 diesel.
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, need to think twice before pulling the trigger: the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class (W164) is hardly the "offroader" that Mercedes-Benz would like you to think. Utility-minded owners will love the 2050L (72cu-ft) cargo space.
