Product Overview

Ford Explorer Mk5 (chassis code U502) is a large crossover in production from 2011 to 2019. It was available with a range of inline-4 and V6 engines that displaced 2.3 to 3.5 liters.
Unlike its predecessors, the Mk5 Explorer is no longer an SUV. It became a unibody crossover. In this shift, the Explorer lost marginal offroad capabilities, which it was hardly known for. As a tradeoff, the new model is much better on the road, and it offers significantly larger interior space, even though the exterior dimensions only grew marginally.
At the same time, the Explorer lost the V8 engine and gained an inline-4 for FWD.
Police departments in North America use the Mk5 Explorer extensively. In this case, the vehicle is powered by a 3.7L bi-turbocharged V6.
