Product Overview

BMW X6 M E71 is the high-performance model of BMW's uglified X6 mid-size crossover. It was in production from 2009 to 2014, powered by a highly-tuned S63B44 hot-V bi-turbo engine that displaced 4.4 liters. In the beginning of the production run, the E71 X6 M used ZF 6HP automatic transmission; this was updated to an 8-speed unit in 2012.
Unfortunately, the X6 M is a disaster in both styling and engineering: It has an ugly roofline that makes the rear seats almost useless and the cargo area small. At the same time, its S63 engine is extremely troublesome, arguably the worst modern V8 in the automotive industry. The automatic transmission wasn't that great, either, given the vehicle's weight.
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, need to think twice before pulling the trigger: the BMW X6 M E71 is hardly the "offroader" that BMW would like you to think. With a 13.9L/100km (16.9mpg) fuel "dis-economy", owners have to be prepared to pay for their "smiles-per-mile".
