Product Overview

BMW X5 M E70 is a high-performance mid-size crossover in production from 2010 to 2013. It was powered by a highly-tuned S63 hot-V bi-turbo V8 engine that displaced 4.4 liters paired to a ZF 8HP automatic transmission.
On the plus side, the E70 X5 M delivers a level of raw performance that pleases. While BMW no longer pretends that the X5 is any sort of "SUV" with the X5 M, the on-road handling and acceleration have been maximized. Few vehicles in its class can come close to the X5 M.
However, the S63 engine is just as unreliable as the N63 on which it is based, if not more so. Hence, the E70 X5 M can be expected to be an oil-burner with a short service life.
Owners may find that at speed the vehicle consumes a lot more than the numbers indicate, thanks to a disappointing 0.38 coefficient of drag to show for it. With a 13.9L/100km (16.9mpg) fuel "dis-economy", owners have to be prepared to pay for their "smiles-per-mile".
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the BMW X5 M (E70) uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.
