Product Overview

Porsche Macan (Typ 95B) is a mid-size crossover in production from 2014 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-4 and V6 engines that displaced 2.0 to 3.6 liters.
Those who drive offroad should keep in mind that the Macan is not designed for this purpose. Instead, it has a rather sporty suspension setup that offers great on-road performance.

The 2.0-litre petrol Macan is designed to appeal to former Macan diesel customers. The engine is a VW unit, the same in most regards as that found in hot Golfs. It produces 242bhp in the Macan, it can generate as much as 306 bhp in a Golf. This, then, is the best-handling Macan I've driven.

Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Good looks
Cons
  • No automatic gearbox
  • Pricier than rivals

Porsche Macan recorded its best ever year of sales in 2017. With upwards of 97,000 of these entry-level Porsche five-doors sold around the globe in those 12 months. By the end of this year, Porsche expects close to 400,000 to have found homes over the past five years.

Pros
  • Powerful V6 engine
  • Comfortable to drive

  • Fiddly infotainment system

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
By current fast 4x4 standards for straight-line shove, the Macan S just isn’t quite cutting it. On adaptively damped coil springs and a bigger optional rim, meanwhile, the car has a very convincing blend of ride sophistication, lateral grip and handling response. The Macan's handling is only at its class-leading, mass-defying, apex-splicing best when the car can suck its sprung mass down over its axles.

Pros
  • Class-leading handling
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • Slightly fussy handling
  • Not the most practical

The Porsche Macan has just been given a facelift. There's now a full-width LED tail-light bar at the back and new headlights. Inside you'll find a new 11-inch touchscreen display. The big news with this latest Macan is the removal of the huge-selling V6 diesel engine. Porsche now doesn't offer a single diesel across its entire line-up.

Pros
  • Gorgeous new interior
  • Excellent all-wheel-drive system
Cons
  • Pricier than rivals
  • No diesel option

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The F-Pace is characterised by a slightly softer focus to the ride and handling balance. But there's no getting away from the fact that the powertrain is a letdown. The Jag was two seconds slower from 0-60mph on test, taking 8.1 seconds. It also trailed its rival by 2.6 seconds going from 30-70mph through the gears. The gearbox, too, is more sluggish to shift than the Porsche's.

Pros

The Porsche Macan Turbo has a new powertrain, but there's nothing new about how impressive this SUV is. It's still a showcase of how to launch a bona-fide performance SUV, blending pace and agility with genuine comfort and refinement. You'll have to add a few options, as it's not a fully-stocked range topping model; even leather is an extra.

The 2019 Porsche Macan S has a high-power engine and all-wheel drive. The PCM infotainment system is capital-G Great. Apple CarPlay is available, but Porsche has deigned to charge owners for it. There are a number of choices in the compact luxury crossover segment.

The Macan Turbo's engine doesn't feel like a meaningful upgrade over the 3.0-liter V6 in the Macan S. The Macan is still lovely from behind the wheel -- quiet, nicely appointed and with great fit and finish. All the features you expect from a luxury SUV are there, the experience is just outdated.

Cons
  • V6 is too buttoned up for its own good
  • Lack of driver-assistance features

The 2019 Porsche Macan S is an excellent combination of performance and luxury. The Sport Chrono package includes Sport Response, a button on the steering wheel that recalibrates the engine and transmission for maximum thrust. The Macan floats over road imperfections like a true luxury car, yet feels taught and precise while cornering.
