Product Overview

BMW X4 M F98 is a compact crossover in production from 2019 to 2021. It was available with a two tunes of the S58 bi-turbo inline-6 petrol engine that displaced 3.0 liters.
The first X4 to carry an "M" badge, the F98 X4 M is based on the F26 BMW X4, which in turn is based on the F25 X3. Hence, the F98 X4 M shares the same mechanical underpinnings of the F97 X3 M.
However, the X4 M, due to its hunchback design, is less practical and uglier yet priced higher. This logic arises from the misconception that "4" must be 1/3 better than "3".
Owners may find that at speed the vehicle consumes a lot more than the numbers indicate, thanks to a disappointing 0.36 coefficient of drag to show for it.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the BMW X4 M F98 comes with double-wishbone at the front and multi-link at the rear. This is a bit unusual for AWD and less tunable than a multi-link front setup, but what you lose in performance you gain in durability.

Reviewer score 55%
Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
Like the X3 M, the X4 M is an effective but unusually serious and uncompromising driver’s car by fast SUV norms. It's capable of putting on speed urgently, shedding it powerfully and robustly and always really involving its driver. It doesn’t quite have the sense of compactness and agility necessary to make it easy to thread quickly down a narrow country road, but it flows well enough along smoother, wider ones.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The X4 M Competition delivers a great sense of control and confidence-inspiring dynamic qualities. There's a good deal more heft to the steering than you find in standard X4 models, along with tauter body control, outstanding grip and, when the conditions allow, the sort of cornering adjustability offered by the very best M cars. With a nominal 525 litres of luggage space, extendable to 1430 litres when the 40:20:40-split rear seats are stowed, the new model does offer reasonable versatility.
