Product Overview

Toyota Avalon 4 (code XX40) is a large family sedan in production from 2012 to 2018. It was available with a inline-4 in hybrid form and Toyota's venerable 3.5L V6 engine.
For those who care about maximum reliability, the 2GR-FE 3.5L V6 is arguably unbeatable in the automotive industry. Some, however, may find it a bit of let-down, since Toyota didn't increase its output since the Gen3 Avalon. It was paired to the 6-speed automatic found in the facelift Gen3 Avalon, too.
For those who care about fuel economy, Toyota now offers a hybrid drivetrain with an Atkinson-cycle 2.5L engine, 2AR-FE paired to Toyota's unique e-CVT. This drivetrain has also proven itself to be exceptionally reliable, though the hybrid battery is always something to consider when buying used.
Styling-wise, the Avalon 4 is a bit more up-market than before. Even though the car didn't really grow in size, it offers a more spacious interior. Toyota has again made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.28 coefficient of drag to show for it.
In 2015, the Avalon received a facelift, though changes include only cosmetic and standard equipment updates. The mechanics remained the same.
