Product Overview

Nikon Coolpix P1000 is a high-end 1/2.3" compact camera with a large zoom range. Introduced by Nikon in 2018, it comes with a 1/2.3" sensor with 16 MP (4608 x 3456) resolution and a 2.36 million-dot EVF.
The camera has a poor battery life, and a second or third battery may be needed to get you through the day. The P1000's 7.0 fps burst rate limits its use for certain types of photography, but it is hardly something that most photographers should worry about.
The Coolpix P1000 comes with a fully articulated display. Those who intend to use the Nikon Coolpix P1000 for video work will be glad to find that the camera comes with 5 stops of IBIS. Nikon has endowed this compact camera with a 125x zoom lens, which can be quite useful for travels. Last but not least, the camera can focus quite close to the subject.

External Reviews

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 88% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 is undeniably the king of super-zooms. Its 125x reach, extending from a 24mm wide angle to an eye-watering 3000mm, is unmatched and deserving of a new mega-zoom classification. Beyond the zoom it has more to offer, including a big bright viewfinder, a big articulated screen, Raw shooting, 4K filming, an external mic socket, in-camera battery charging and Wifi with Bluetooth.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 125x zoom
  • Large viewfinder
  • Very good battery life
Cons
  • Can’t focus as close as 1cm
  • No electronic VR

rtings[2]

Reviewer score 11% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Nikon COOLPIX P1000 is okay for landscape photography. It delivers high-quality images with minimal visual noise, even at higher ISO levels. However, the sharpness and detail decline significantly, so it's not recommended for low light. Its video quality is poor overall, especially in low light, and its autofocus performance is terrible.
Pros
  • Feels well-built and fairly comfortable to use
  • Excellent image quality
  • Very long focal length
  • Superb low-light performance
  • Fully articulated screen
Cons
  • Bulky and heavy
  • Image sharpness decreases significantly at higher ISO levels
  • No water resistance or weather sealing
  • Poor autofocus performance

tomsguide[3]

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
The P1000 body measures 5.8 x 4.7 x 7.2 inches without the lens extended. At 3.12 pounds with battery and SD card, the P1000 is lighter than it looks. You need to have a very sturdy tripod when you're shooting at extended zoom ranges.
Pros
  • Excellent low-light and high-ISO performance
  • Long battery life
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • No touch screen
  • Can feel a little front heavy with a fully extended lens
