Product Overview

Sony DSC-RX100 VII is a high-end 1″ compact camera. Introduced by Sony in 2019, it comes with a 1" sensor with 20 MP (5472 x 3648) resolution and a 2.36 million-dot EVF.
The camera has a poor battery life, and a second or third battery may be needed to get you through the day. One should note that the RX100 VII has a 125 base ISO, which is not conducive to getting the cleanest images. Professionals and fanboys will be pleased by the extraordinary 90.0 fps burst rate that this camera can deliver.
Those who intend to use the Sony RX100 VII for video work will be glad to find that the camera comes with 4 stops of IBIS. Last but not least, the camera can focus quite close to the subject.

Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Sony RX100 VII is a high-end compact designed for travel, action, video and vlogging. Successor to the RX100 VI, it shares the same 24-200mm f2.8-4.5 zoom as well as essentially the same body with a touch-screen that can angle up to face you. It now becomes the first RX100 model to sport a 3.5mm analogue input to connect an external microphone. Canon’s G5X II and G7X III both sport 4k video, brighter lenses with ND filters and flip screens while also undercutting it on price.
Pros
  • Fast autofocus
  • 3.5mm mic input
  • Excellent 4k video
Cons
  • Can’t mount a bracket or a lavalier mic

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The RX100 VII uses the same 24-200mm f/2.8-4.5 zoom lens as the VI version of the camera. It shoots Raw or JPG images at 20MP resolution. The big limiting factor for working in very dim light (without the aid of flash) is the lens' f-stop.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Fast autofocus
  • Excellent video stabilization
Cons
  • Lackluster low-light performance
  • No telephoto zoom

rtings[4]

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Sony RX100 VII is a great option for landscape photography. Its wide shutter speed range makes it easy to capture both long-exposure shots and stills of fast-moving subjects. Unfortunately, the camera's small size and lack of a dedicated hand grip can make it uncomfortable to use for extended periods. It also has fairly short battery life.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality out-of-the-box
  • Excellent autofocus system
  • Great noise-handling capability
  • Superb image quality in FHD and 4k
  • Very good noise handling capabilities
Cons
  • Short battery life
  • Can be uncomfortable to hold for long periods
  • Not rated as being water or impact-resistant

Reviewers from t3 have found:
Small enough to fit in a jeans pocket, so it's something you can always have with you. The pop-out electronic viewfinder continues to be an added bonus. Big change comes to video - with Sony keen to appeal to the ever-growing ‘vlogger’ audience. There's mic input for the first time in the RX100 series, real-time tracking and Eye-AF for video.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent video quality
  • Great mic input
Cons
  • Battery life could be longer

techradar[6]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
Sony's new RX100 VII is a modest improvement on the RX100 VI. It still has the same 1-inch dimensions and stacked architecture as before. It now works with the latest version of the company's BIONZ X engine. Videos are recorded to 4K UHD quality at a maximum 30p, with no pixel binning.
Pros
  • Fantastic burst-rate figures
  • Super-fast autofocus and auto-exposure
  • 4K UHD recording
Cons
  • No SD card slot
  • No telephoto lens
