Zeiss Otus 28mm F1.4
Full-Frame LensProduct Gallery
Product Overview
Zeiss Otus 28mm F1.4 is a flagship large-aperture manual-focus wide-angle prime lens for Canon EF-mount and Nikon F-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Zeiss in 2015, it has 16 elements in 13 groups.
Manual focus may be limiting to some, but purists will find it much more engaging. There are also fewer things to go wrong on the long run. In the case of this Otus, we really find the best from the best.
The bright maximum aperture for a wide-angle lens is appreciated for night photography, though some may prefer the perspective of an ultra wide-angle lens for this. Even though the lens is not stabilized, at this focal range it does not usually matter. In fact, some may be able to get cleaner corners without image stabilization.

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)Nikon’s new AF-S VR 24-70mm 2.8E ED is the most expensive alternative at 2400 EUR. It reaches 2.5x further with its 70mm focal length at the long end. As with the 55/1.4 Otus I can only say: if you can’t manage to properly focus manually you better forget about this lens.
Pros
- Sharpness, contrast, and resistance against contra light, coma, loCA, Bokeh
- Very good image stabilization
