External Reviews

techadvisor[1]

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techadvisor have found:
MSI Optix MAG272CQR is a decent upgrade over the previous MSI gaming solution. It increases the frequency range, offers greater display control, and now a USB hub. It's cheaper than the MAG27CQ was at launch which is unusual for new tech. Samsung VA panel isn't the best we've tested or as fast as a TN technology panel for gaming, but it's more than adequate for most PC gamers.
Pros
  • HDR Ready
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • No G-Sync support
  • Lack of RGB lighting

techradar[2]

Reviewer score 55% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
MSI Optix MAG272CQR is a 27-inch curved gaming monitor with a 1440p resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. It comes complete with AMD's FreeSync adaptive syncing technology. The Samsung-supplied panel boasts static contrast performance of 3,000:1. However, with a peak brightness of just 300cd/m2 this isn't a true HDR display.
Pros
  • Fantastic build quality
  • Bright, punchy colors
Cons
  • Poor pixel response
  • No local dimming

tomshardware[3]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomshardware have found:
The MAG272CQR has plenty of native contrast and doesn't need help from simulated or dynamic contrast. Brightness is locked at maximum, so it's not possible to reduce output. Adaptive-Sync worked equally well when paired with an AMD graphics card or an Nvidia one to use unofficial G-Sync.
Pros
  • High native contrast with deep blacks and bright highlights
  • HDR simulation is easy to use
Cons
  • No sRGB mode
  • No HDR simulation
