Bang & Olufsen Beoplay A9 4th-Gen is a premium, elegant powered speaker designed for the modern home. It straddles the line between a conventional powered loudspeaker and a wireless speaker and targets a very specific clientele.
The 4th-gen Beoplay A9 has a plastic chassis enhanced by more premium materials such as aluminum ring and solid wood legs. Within the chassis, seven drivers can be found, including an 8-inch woofer and a pair of 1.5-inch full-range drivers, both rather rare for a wireless speaker.
As to be expected, each driver is powered by a dedicated class D amplifier. Together, they push up to 1500W of peak power.
The Beoplay A9 also offers, like a wireless speaker, smart features such as built-in Google Assistant and the ability to stream audio directly from the internet. B&O makes it easy by providing not only wireless connectivity (Bluetooth & WiFi) but also LAN input. A 3.5mm AUX-optical combo jack rounds up the input options.
Ultimately, the Beoplay A9 is an luxury item for those who care about how interior design more than pure HiFi enjoyment. To get stereo, two A9s can be paired (and are needed), which pushes the price up further.
