Bang & Olufsen Beosound Explore
Wireless SpeakerProduct Gallery
Product Overview
Bang & Olufsen Beosound Explore is a compact, stylish portable wireless speaker designed for activities. Sharing some features with the Beosound A1 2nd-Gen, notably its IP67 water- and dust-resistance, the Beosound Explore has a tougher exterior design and comes with a carabiner as well as a fabric strap.
The Beosound Explore uses anodized aluminum extensively to protect its internals from the elements. It is able to offer up to 27 hours of battery life, despite having a moderately-sized 2400mAh battery. This is because it only has two rather small full-range drivers to power.
B&O still promises good sound quality from the compact, robust speaker, though this should be understood in perspective.

Reviewer score 53% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Bang & Olufsen Beosound Explore has two 1.8-inch drivers, two 30W Class D full-range amplifiers, and a frequency response range of 56-22,700Hz. The speaker uses Bluetooth 5.2 for connectivity with support for the SBC Bluetooth codec. There is no microphone on the device, so my testing was limited to listening to music, watching YouTube, and playing games on my smartphone. The sound profile is easy to adjust to your liking, and I was able to intuitively set it to levels that suited individual tracks.
Pros
- Gorgeous design
- Good sound quality
- Easy to use app
Cons
- No microphone on the device
rtings[2]
Reviewer score 43% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Bang & Olufsen Beosound Explore has a boomy sound profile that can muddy vocals and lead instruments. It lacks a thumpy and rumbling bass, and its underemphasized treble range can make higher-pitched vocals and instruments sound a bit dark. Thankfully, you can use its 'Beosonic' sound customization feature and EQ presets to adjust its sound to your liking.
Pros
- Great directivity
- Open and wide-sounding soundstage
- Very low latency with iOS and Android devices
- Gorgeous 360-degree design
- Wide-angle audio
Cons
- Lacks a thumpy and rumbling bass
- Doesn't get very loud
- Some compression artifacts present at max volume

Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)The B&O Explore is one of my favourite portable speakers in years. It has dual 1.8-inch full-range drivers, with 30W of Class D amplification each. The main issue is that it's not expansive. It sounds like it's coming from a single small unit, even if it does push sound out in 360 degree well. The JBL Charge 5 uses its larger size to create sound that's much more expansive.
Pros
- Gorgeous, expansive sound
- Great build quality
- Great battery life
Cons
- Not as expansive as the JBL Charge 5
- No IP67 waterproofing
