Product Overview

Voigtlander Ultron 28mm F2 is manual-focus prime lens for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Part of Voigtlander's Ultron vintage line, the 28mm F2 is available in two designs: Type I with a filigree focusing lever found in pre-war lenses in black and chrome, and Type II in a more "modern" design that dates from the 1950s. Both designs, or "Types" share the same optical design.
As usual for Voigtlander lenses, the Ultron 28mm F2 uses a 10-blade straight-cut aperture that is able to produce some of the best sun stars, vintage lens or otherwise. While the lens has a vintage design, its optics are modern, including aspherical and abnormal partial dispersion lens elements.
Naturally, the Ultron 28mm comes with rangefinder coupling for the 28mm frame. It has a full metal-glass construction that, combined with its vintage designs, should appeal to purists.
The Voigtlander Ultron 28mm F2 joins the 35mm and 21mm Ultron lenses for VM, though every lens in this series can be adapted to popular mirrorless systems.

Reviewers from phillipreeve have found:
The maximum magnification when using the Voigtländer VM-E close focus adapter is 1:5.5. Without such an adapter the minimum focus distance is 70 cm (27.6″) The Ultron faces fierce competition by Sony's own 28mm 2.0 FE lens. The Sony lens also offers autofocus and can be used with the wideangle- and fisheye converters.
Pros
  • Excellent sharpness from f/2 to f11
  • Very good bokeh
  • No distortion
Cons
  • No telephoto lens
  • No focus ring
  • No distance scale
