HP EliteBook 840 Aero G8 14"
LaptopProduct Gallery
Product Overview
HP EliteBook 840 Aero G8 is a premium 14-inch business laptop based on the EliteBook 840 G8. Virtually indistinguishable from the latter at first glance, the 840 Aero is lighter and thus more portable, thanks to more extensive use of magnesium alloy.
Beyond this, the EliteBook 840 Aero G8 has access to most of the options available to the standard 840. For example, it also omits the 4K display option as well as the quad-speaker, quad-mic setup found in the even more exclusive EliteBook x360 1040. At the same time, HP has given the 840 Aero G8 desirable features such as optional 5G mobile broadband, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a generous amount of configurable memory and storage spaces.
Seeing that the price difference between the already light and compact EliteBook 840 G8 and the Aero can fluctuate widely, we recommend that consumers / businesses made informed decisions by comparing the two directly before any purchase decisions are made.
Needless to say, HP also markets an AMD-powered version of 840 G8 (845 G8), though that model is not receiving the "Aero" treatment.

digitaltrends[1]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)The keyboard's mechanism is deep, with a snappy bottoming action, and it's very quiet. Windows 10 Hello support is provided by both a fingerprint reader and an infrared camera. The EliteBook 840 Aero G8 is well-built yet very light, performs well, and offers great battery life.

Cons
- Expensive for what it offers

Reviewer score 94% (normalized by Neofiliac)At 2.5 pounds and 12.7 x 8.5 x 0.7 inches, the EliteBook 840 Aero not only has a small footprint, but it's incredibly lightweight. Like most EliteBook keyboards, the 840 Aero is incredibly comfortable and clicky to type on. It even has a pointing stick and discrete clickers for users who actually want those features.
Pros
- Sturdy aluminum chassis

- Comfortable keyboard
Cons
- Lackluster battery life
notebookcheck[3]
Reviewer score 93% (normalized by Neofiliac)The HP EliteBook 840 G8 is one of the quietest 14-inch laptops we've reviewed. Graphics performance is about average when compared to other laptops with the same Iris Xe 96 EUs GPU. It's loaded with features including NFC, 5G, Thunderbolt 4, Smart Card, and an optional 1000-nit panel that even Dell or Lenovo can't offer on any of their current business laptops. The excellent keyboard and clickpad, easy upgradeability, long battery life, and surprisingly quiet fan noise make this a great laptop.
Pros
- Excellent keyboard and clickpad
- Long battery life
- Quiet fan noise
Cons
- Fan noise could be louder
- No Thunderbolt 4
pcmag[4]
Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)The HP EliteBook 840 Aero G8 is an excellent, lightweight productivity partner with available 5G connectivity. It doesn't knock the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9 from its Editors' Choice award perch, but it goes toe to toe with the Latitude 7420 and other excellent alternatives. The laptops finished close together in PCMark 10, all soaring past the 4,000-point score.
Pros
- Class-leading screen brightness
- Excellent battery life
- Excellent keyboard and touchpad
Cons
- No 4K display
- No Wi-Fi 6G
techradar[5]

Some impressive specs are housed inside the ultra-light 2.54 lb chassis, including an 11th-gen Core i7 processor. The 14-inch laptop also offers optional features like 5G LTE Wireless, fingerprint reader, privacy protection screen, smart card reader and an IR webcam with a camera privacy shutter.
Pros
- Excellent build quality
- Comfortable keyboard
- Excellent battery life
Cons
- Expensive for what you get
tomsguide[6]
Reviewer score 88% (normalized by Neofiliac)The EliteBook 840 chugged along for 9 hours and 40 minutes on our automated battery test. The 720p webcam will get you through a web conference in a pinch, but the faded, grainy visuals aren't very suitable for video calls. The machine gets a bit warm under duress, peaking at 104.5 degrees Farenheit in our testing.
Pros
- Fantastic battery life
- Built-in Tile device finding technology
- Comfortable keyboard
Cons
- No dedicated media controls
