Product Overview

LG UltraGear GP is a portable gaming speaker. It features a quality ESS9038 Pro Quad DAC and four drivers in a 2.0-channel, 2-way setup with dual 20mm tweeters, dual 2-inch woofers, and passive radiators.
For gamers who prefer headsets, the UltraGear GP supports DTS Headphone:X, which is able to create a virtual surround sound experience for more immersive gaming. For those who prefer to use speakers instead, the UltraGear GP has a built-in microphone. LG has endowed this portable gaming speaker with its Clear Voice Chat technology that ensures clear voice chats with strong suppression of ambient noises and echoes.
A unique aspect of the UltraGear GP is that it is, like other portable speakers, able to run on its own battery. In theory, this feature gives the owner the opportunity to carry it for tournaments, though it is questionable how many would actually use it this way.

digitaltrends[1]

Reviewer score 62% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
When watching movies or listening to music, it was as if I was using a completely different speaker. The speaker is very bright, and it doesn’t separate the higher frequencies when the volume is turned up. Clear Voice Chat is an impressive addition, but I would choose most other microphones over the one inside the GP9.
Pros
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Great quad DAC
  • Built-in microphone
Cons
  • Sound quality isn’t great

pcmag[2]

Reviewer score 61% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The LG UltraGear GP9 is a powerful soundbar that can sit below your monitor. It's small and lacks a dedicated subwoofer driver, thus limiting its ability to drive low frequencies. Because it's relatively small, the GP9 can’t produce the same sort of subtle imaging as high-quality simulated surround sound.
Pros
  • Powerful gaming audio performance
  • Powerful headset jack
  • Built-in microphone
Cons
  • Lacks a dedicated subwoofer

wired[3]

Reviewer score 54% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from wired have found:
UltraGear GP9 is designed to be a set-it-and-forget-it style soundbar, but for gaming. It works impressively well as a team chat device, despite not being a headset. On the bells and whistles front, the GP9 excels, providing innovative features.
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Intelligent echo and noise cancellation
Cons
  • Noise cancellation isn’t as effective as it could be
