Product Overview

Sony HT-A5000 is a premium 5.1.2-channel all-in-one soundbar with a rich set of digital sound processing features. It follows up on the HT-A7000 unveiled earlier in 2021, differing primarily in the omission of the two virtual "surround back" channels.
The HT-A5000 is compatible with not only Dolby Atmos and DTS:X but also Sony's Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force Pro. The latter two enable the all-in-one soundbar to simulate the front up-firing ("front presence") and surround channels to convincing effect.
As has been the case with recent Sony soundbars, beam-forming tweeters are used for simulating the surround channels. They allow the soundbar to adapt to the setup of the listening room without the intervention of the user. The soundbar also has two X-Balanced internal woofers. These are racetrack drivers that maximizes the diaphragm area and can be found in many recent Sony products.
Like the HT-A7000, the HT-A5000 can be supplemented with wireless subwoofers SA-SW5 or SA-SW3 as well as rear speakers SA-RS3S.

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The A5000’s built-in subwoofer is surprisingly powerful. Dolby Atmos Music can feel lackluster at times, but the A5000 lets you appreciate the emerging format to its full potential. When you consider its 8K compatibility, it could be 10 years before you need to think about upgrading.
Pros
  • Powerful built-in subwoofer
  • Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X support
Cons
  • No way to tweak EQ
