Product Overview

YH-L700A are Yamaha's new flagship wireless noise-cancelling headphones with 3D Sound Field technology. They are suspiciously similar to the YH-E700A unveiled a year ago, with the 3D Sound Field technology as well as a more edgy design being what makes the YH-L700A stand out.
As flagship headphones, the YH-L700A enjoy an over-ear design. The battery life is slightly lowered from the YH-E700A (by an hour), but still stands at 34 hours with Advanced ANC on. However, 3D Sound Field cuts this by 2/3. Yamaha goodies such as Ambient Sound, Listening Care, and Listening Optimizer are also included. In particular, Listening Care uses intelligent equalization to boost certain frequencies for low-volume listening.
The 3D Sound Field technology broadens the sound stage and makes for a more immersive listening experience. It is accompanied by dynamic head tracking: As such, the music stays at the same place, as it would be if the band is playing in front of the listener, which further enhances the realism. This technology makes the YH-L700A a great option for enjoying movies and videos, too.
Last but not least, Yamaha's proprietary Advanced ANC analyzes and removes background noise without coloring the sound.

Reviewer score 41% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
Yamaha's YH-L700A headphones offer decent sound quality, but their noise cancellation capabilities aren't impressive. The headphones deliver powerful low-frequency depth that will appeal to fans of boosted, huge bass. Their 3D audio feature isn't as engrossing as Apple's spatial audio, and their active noise cancellation is unimpressive.
Pros
  • Powerful bass depth
  • Excellent noise cancellation
  • Comfortable fit
Cons
  • Noise cancellation isn’t as effective as Apple’s spatial audio
  • No active noise cancellation

Reviewers from techradar have found:
Yamaha YH-L700A are a poised and undeniably burly listen. Bass sounds are punchy and textured, with nice straight edges where the attack and decay of individual notes and hits are concerned. Soundstage is cogent, expansive and properly organised. Head Tracking is a slightly less convincing feature of the whole 3D Sound Field experience.
Pros
  • Impressive sound quality
  • Impressive 3D Sound Field performance
Cons
  • Lack of rhythmic expression
  • Head Tracking isn’t as convincing as straight stereo

Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
Yamaha YH-L700A is an audiophile headphone for both music and cinematic lovers. It's loaded with features that elevate the listening experience, powered by 3D Sound, head tracking, hi-res audio, real-time audio and connectivity. The design is well made, although it's also super bulky and is a lot for any pair of headphones.
Pros
  • Powerful audio performance
  • Comfortable fit
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Lopsided playtime
  • No wireless charging
