Product Overview

Onkyo TX-RZ740 is a midrange 11.2-channel network AV receiver. It comes with a large number of standard I/O options and supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound. It is essentially the TX-NR696 with four additional height channels in a 7.2.4 setup.

Thanks to not only WiFi 5 and LAN but also Bluetooth connectivity, the TX-RZ740 is able to support all modern network streaming services, including Sonos, Spotify, and Deezer, etc. It is also able to stream directly from mobile devices.

In terms of physical connections, the TX-RZ740 offers all that one would expect from a modern AV receiver. It has 7 HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs, 6 RCA inputs, and a phono (Moving Magnet) input, and 2 digital audio inputs. It even supports component video and composite video inputs.

Being an affordable model, the TX-RZ740 lacks balanced inputs, and its DAC and amplifying circuitry are consumer grade. Still, budget-conscious consumers are better off spending more on the speakers than the receiver as a general rule, and this receiver is a good option with a lot of features for not a lot of money.

A few other receivers by Onkyo from 2019 include the TX-SR393, TX-SR494, TX-RZ840, and TX-RZ3400.
