Product Overview

Sennheiser CX True Wireless are premium wireless earphones based on the CX 400BT unveiled in 2020. With roughly the same set of features, the CX True Wireless are about 1/3 cheaper and boast roughly 1/4 longer battery life.
Like the CX 400BT, the CX True Wireless use Sennheiser's 7mm dynamic drivers with the same 5Hz ~ 21kHz frequency response. Here, Bluetooth 5.2 LE is supported, which contributes to the longer battery life rating.
A key difference between the two is the microphone setup: While the CX 400BT have all microphones in a single earbud, the CX True Wireless have symmetric beam-forming microphone arrays in both earbuds, even though the total number of microphones remain unchanged.

Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
Sennheiser CX True Wireless offer a full-bodied soundstage with strong clarity to each of the 80+ instruments. Smart Control companion app has a nice layout and plenty of options to fiddle with. Call quality is clear indoors and the microphones do a decent job of isolating your voice while walking down quiet streets.
Pros
  • Gorgeous, spacious sound
  • Excellent battery life
  • Comfortable fit
Cons
  • No noise cancellation
  • Middling call quality

nextpit[2]

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from nextpit have found:
The Sennheiser CX True Wireless take advantage of the same 7mm TrueResponse drivers found in the Momentum 2 TWS. They offer a fairly faithful audio reproduction that breaks away from the ultra-bassy signature we're used to hearing in this price range. The frequency range of 5-21,000 Hz is significantly wider than almost all other earbuds sold at the $100 mark.
Pros
  • Excellent audio reproduction
  • Compatible with SBC, AAC, and aptX codecs
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No ANC or multipoint Bluetooth
  • Average microphone performance

notebookcheck[3]

Reviewer score 53% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
The Sennheiser CX True Wireless offer superb sound quality and a long battery life. The headphones offer up to 9 hours of playback time, a claim we were able to substantiate during our testing. As impressive as the sound quality is, the performance of the microphones is a very different story.
Pros
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Excellent battery life
  • Compact design
Cons
  • Lacks Transparent Hearing
  • No wireless charging

pcmag[4]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
Sennheiser's CX True Wireless earphones deliver powerful thump and don't distort at high volume levels. The earpieces can last up to nine hours per charge, with about 18 more hours of use in the charging case. In-canal fit is a tricky thing, and everyone will have their own particular experience.
Pros
  • Strong sound quality
  • Good battery life
  • Excellent noise cancellation
Cons
  • In-canal fit can be tricky

rtings[5]

Reviewer score 44% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Sennheiser CX True Wireless are okay for neutral sound. They have a somewhat warm, bass-heavy sound profile that adds thump and rumble to EDM and hip-hop tracks. Their underemphasized treble response can also veil and muffle higher notes.
Pros
  • Compact and sturdy design
  • Very low Bluetooth audio latency
  • Comfortable and stable fit
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No multi-device pairing
  • Mediocre audio reproduction
  • Poor noise isolation

techradar[6]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Sennheiser CX True Wireless are the successor to the CX 400BT. Available in matte black or white, the earbuds sport large, square housings. These housing are touch-sensitive, allowing you to control your music playback and calls, as well as letting you summon your device's voice assistant. Vocals sound sublimely clear, with lots of detail from the harmonized backing singers.
Pros
  • Expansive sound
  • Improved battery life
  • Improved sound quality
Cons
  • Bulky design
  • No wireless charging

tomsguide[7]

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
Sennheiser's CX True Wireless have a more powerful low-end. This delivers more of a satisfying chunkiness to stomping rock songs. After updating the Smart Connect app, it's also possible to fully customize the touch inputs or turn them off entirely. Customization is another useful touch, especially if you want faster access to your digital assistant.
Pros
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Comfortable fit
  • Great battery life
Cons
  • No ANC
  • No wireless charging

trustedreviews[8]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The CX True Wireless sound better than the CX 400BT. Sennheiser has slightly tweaked its approach for the better. There’s no wireless charging, but there is fast charging. Bluetooth connectivity is buffed up to version 5.2, but connection is choppy in busy areas.
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Comfortable fit
  • Good call quality
Cons
  • No wireless charging

whathifi[9]

Reviewer score 56% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from whathifi have found:
The Sennheiser CX joins a duo of celebrated five-star siblings. Both units work for play/pause and volume adjustment, but when we disconnect and re-pair, it is only the other bud that produces playback. There's no active noise cancellation onboard, no transparency feature, and no auto-off wearer detection when you remove them. You can also play with two distinct and detailed methods of EQ adjustment.
Pros
  • Sleek and stylish design
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Bass is a little heavy
  • Dull treble
