Product Overview

SteelSeries Prime is a wired ergonomic right-handed mouse designed for gaming. It has a physical shell that is particularly beneficial for claw or fingertip grips.
The SteelSeries Prime uses the company's TrueMove Pro optical sensor with CPI up to 18,000. It comes with true 1-to-1 tracking without hardware acceleration.
This sensor is paired with Prestige OM optical mechanical switches that are more consistent and durable, rated for 100 million clicks. The Prestige OM switch uses a neodymium magnet to achieve consistency, while the optical IR sensor ensures durability and fast response time.
At the same time, the SteelSeries Prime is surprisingly light for its size, weighing just 69 grams.
Alongside the Prime, SteelSeries also introduced the Prime+ and Prime Wireless.

The SteelSeries Prime is a wired mouse with a detachable microUSB wire. It is capable of 18,000 DPI, 450 IPS (inches per second) and 50G acceleration. Like its siblings, there's no on-the-fly DPI button. The mouse wheel is smooth, but like the others, it feels cheap.
Pros
  • Lightweight and easy to use
  • Comfortable clickers
  • Accurate acceleration
Cons
  • No on-the-fly DPI button
  • Clickers are stiff

rtings[2]

Reviewer score 51% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The SteelSeries Prime mouse is great for FPS gaming. It's lightweight, feels very well-built, and has an ergonomic, right-handed shape suitable for all grip types and most hand sizes. It has a wide CPI range, a CPI you can adjust by increments of 50, and a very low lift-off distance. Unfortunately, while its click latency is good, it's higher than many other mid-range wired gaming mice.
Pros
  • Feels very well-built
  • Good number of programmable buttons and companion software compatible with Windows and macOS
  • Comfortable, right-handed shape suitable for all grip types and most hand sizes
Cons
  • Click latency is higher than most other mid-range wired gaming mice
  • Mouse wheel lacks L/R tilt buttons and doesn't unlock for free scrolling
