Product Overview

7Artisans 18mm F6.3 is an ultra-compact pancake lens designed to work with most popular mirrorless APS-C systems. It has a quirky, fixed f/6.3 aperture, and its focus is fixed at the lens' hyperfocal distance, making everything in focus from just over 1m to infinity.
Given the lens' extremely compact form factor and its self-imposed limits, the photographer can be relieved in knowing that it weighs under 50 grams and costs just $69. Nevertheless, it boasts, like other 7Artisans lenses, a full-metal construction. Essentially, it is an affordable hobby lens that allows users to have a "smartphone-like" experience shooting with their APS-C cameras.
For APS-C shooters, 7Artisans also offers several standard lenses, including the 60mm F2.8 Macro, 35mm F1.2 Mark II, 35mm F0.95, and 7.5mm F2.8 Fisheye Mark II.

Reviewer score 66% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The 7 Artisans 18mm F6.3 is a very special lens belonging to the category of lens cap lens : so tiny that it as tiny as a lens cap. In total it is 10mm thick, so much thinner than a pancake lens! With this design the lens is more or less focused at the hyperfocal distance of 2.53m. At infinity the sharpness is good in the centre but the corners are lagging behind at average level.
Pros
  • Sharpness in the centre
  • Vignetting is strong (barrel)
Cons
  • Color shift at the corners
  • No lens cap or hood
  • Reduced contrast with incident light
