Product Overview

EVGA Z20 is a premium full-size optical mechanical gaming keyboard. Available with either linear or clicky switches, the Z20 combines 4000Hz polling rate, fast actuation, high durability, and a unique ToF proximity sensor in a solid chassis.
The EVGA Z20's optical mechanical switches, much like similar switches offered by Razer, Gigabyte, and ASUS, have more consistent and faster actuation than traditional mechanical switches, while being significantly more durable, thanks to a smaller number of moving parts.
A unique feature that the EVGA Z20 boasts is the Time of Flight (ToF) proximity sensor that allows the keyboard to enter or exit sleep quickly.
Unsurprisingly, the Z20 supports N-key rollover with 100% anti-ghosting. It also features extensive per-key RGB lighting as well as RGB light bars located on both sides.
For more practicality, EVGA has endowed the Z20 with a number of media and macro keys, including an aluminum volume scroll.
Next to the Z20, EVGA also markets a conventional mechanical keyboard, the Z15, with swappable switches.

Reviewer score 49% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The EVGA Z20 has almost every feature that a gamer could want. The keys, the heart and soul of any keyboard, are on similarly weak ground. Configuration apps that let you remap keys, program macros, and set RGB lighting are often weak points. The Z20's configuration feels antiquated and doesn't work all that well.
Pros
  • Powerful audio passthrough
  • Excellent proximity sensor
  • Lots of customization options
Cons
  • Lackluster configuration
  • Lacks dedicated macro buttons
  • Wobbly keycaps

The EVGA Z20 has a sturdy-feeling build, full RGB backlighting, dedicated macro keys, and good ergonomics with a plush leatherette wrist rest. It also has exceptionally low latency and robust companion software for configuration. The unit we tested has clicky Light Strike LK Optical switches that feel very light, have a short pre-travel, and small tactile bump to overcome before actuation.
Pros
  • Excellent build quality
  • Full RGB backlighting
  • Good ergonomics with multiple incline settings
  • Very low latency
  • Fully compatible with both Windows and macOS
  • Feels very well built
  • Great typing quality and good tactile feedback
Cons
  • Short pre-travel
  • No trackpad
  • Can't install software on macOS
