Product Overview

In an unexpected move, Xiaomi has brought back the popular Redmi Note 8 in a new 2021 version that keeps the original's winning form factor and camera setup while throwing in some internal upgrades.
The most obvious change is the new MediaTek Helio G85 chipset that is found in more recent devices such as the Redmi Note 9. Xiaomi promises more usability for everyday tasks and light gaming as a result.
Meanwhile, the Note 8 2021 also has upgraded Bluetooth connectivity, which now stands at Bluetooth 5.2, as well as Galileo support for GPS.
Other valuable features include the 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in FM radio, and Gorilla Glass 5 front and back, though the chassis remains plastic.
Naturally, the latest MIUI 12.5 comes as standard.

Reviewer score 69% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from gsmarena have found:
The Redmi Note 8 2021 borrows most of its specs from the original. The main difference is a chipset swap, which is arguably more of a downgrade than anything else due to the newfound 1080p video capture limit. For right around as much, you can also get the Redmi 9T, which has stereo speakers and a bigger battery.
Pros
  • Super AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate
  • Good battery life
  • Fast charging
Cons
  • No wireless charging
  • No stereo speakers

notebookcheck[2]

Reviewer score 51% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
The Mali-G52 built into the 2021 model has some slight advantage to an Adreno 610. The 4000-mAh Li-Po battery can be completely recharged using the 22.5-Watt charger in slightly less than 2 hours. The sound quality at medium volume is attractive for this price class, even if there is hardly any bass.
Pros
  • High-quality display
  • Good battery life
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Mediatek Helio G85
  • Slow eMMC storage
  • Slow Wi-Fi
