Product Overview

SteelSeries Rival 5 is a midrange wired gaming mouse. It sits between the Rival 3 and Rival 600 in SteelSeries' current mouse lineup and features the company's new Golden Micro IP54 switches.
Despite its midrange pricing, the Rival 5 has an ergonomic 9-button layout, including 5 side buttons that make it a good option for MOBA, MMO, and other fast-paced games. It also features 10-zone RGB lighting.
The Rival 5 features the company's TrueMove Air optical sensor with true 1-to-1 tracking. Its Golden Micro IP54 mechanical switches are rated for 80 million clicks with improved dust and water resistance.

The Rival 5's 6.7-foot super-mesh cable is as smooth as butter. The mouse weighs 3 ounces and measures 5.1 x 2.5 x 1.1 inches. With SteelSeries' GG software, the mouse can easily be customized.
Pros
  • Super-mesh cable
  • Comfortable thumb rest
  • Customizable profiles
Cons
  • Not comfortable enough for most users

pcmag[2]

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
Steelseries' Rival 5 wired gaming mouse isn't perfectly designed, but it still has a lot to offer. The high-humped chassis guides your hand into a draped position that's comfortable to hold for long stretches. A coating on the matte black shell helps keep your hand in place. It features four lighting elements: a logo in the palm, a scroll wheel, and two accent light bars.
Pros
  • Comfortable to hold for long stretches
  • Sniper button is easy to reach
  • Solid build quality
Cons
  • Not as light as some competitors
  • Not as comfortable as some rivals

rtings[3]

Reviewer score 44% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The SteelSeries Rival 5 feels sturdy and has a good number of buttons. It has an ergonomic right-handed shape that's well-suited for all grip types. It also has a low click latency, a wide CPI range, and a very low lift-off distance. Unfortunately, you can't set the CPI very precisely as it's only adjustable by steps of 100.
Pros
  • Feels well-built
  • Comfortable right-handed shape that's well-suited for all grip types
  • Good number of buttons, all of which are programmable using the companion software compatible with Windows and macOS
  • Very low lift-off distance
Cons
  • No wireless connection options
  • Scroll wheel lacks L/R tilt buttons and doesn't unlock for free scrolling
  • Not as many buttons as a dedicated MMO mouse
  • Only onboard storage for one profile

techradar[4]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The SteelSeries Rival 5 is a mid-range addition to the Rival series of gaming mice. At $59, it comes in above the $30 (£23, AUS$46) Rival 3 and well below the $79 (£79, about AU$100) Rivals 600 and 650. SteelSeries has kept the exceptional light show on display with custom RGB lighting zones at the mouse wheel and the palm rest.
Pros
  • Sturdy, lightweight design
  • Excellent tracking of TrueMove Air sensor
  • Super Mesh cable
Cons
  • Lackluster wireless performance
  • No silicone side grips

tomsguide[5]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
The SteelSeries Rival 5 is an ergonomic right-handed mouse with a high ridged palm rest. It has a clickable scroll wheel and a dots-per-inch (DPI) sensitivity adjuster. On the left side of the mouse is where things get interesting, however. There are two thin thumb buttons, as well as a “sniper” thumb button.
Pros
  • Well-crafted design
  • Colorful LED strips
  • Clickable scroll wheel
  • RGB lighting
Cons
  • Only one middle-of-the-road scroll wheel resistance setting
