Product Overview

ZBook Studio G8 is a premium 15.6-inch mobile workstation in HP's 2021 ZBook lineup. Like its G7 predecessor, the Studio G8 targets the light-and-powerful segment and, as such, packs a lot of power in a chassis barely 0.7" thin.
Sharing the exact same design with the Studio G7, the G8 has a range of new CPU and GPU options, including 11th-gen Intel Tiger Lake CPU up to i9-11950H and NVIDIA consumer- or professional-grade CPU up to RTX A5000 with 16GB GDDR6 graphics memory. Quadro cards are no longer available.
With these changes, the Studio G8 now uses DDR4-3200 memory. The laptop's Thunderbolt ports are also upgraded to Thunderbolt 4, though its USB ports are still USB 3.1 Gen1.
On the display front, the same FHD and 4K options from last year are carried over, including the 4K OLED touch screen with 100% DCI-P3 coverage. That latter is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6.
As before, HP's 2021 ZBook lineup (G8) powered by 11th-gen Intel processors also include other 15.6-inch models, notable the Fury 15 G8 that has similar configurable specifications but is markedly thicker.

External Reviews

digitaltrends[1]

Reviewer score 58% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The ZBook Studio G8 succeeds at packing workstation-level components into a thin and light chassis. However, it does so at the cost of pure performance and expandability. It's a great machine, no doubt about it, but it's also horrendously expensive without adding much to justify the investment.
Pros
  • Excellent performance and expandability
  • Excellent keyboard and touchpad
  • Solid build quality
Cons
  • Poor battery life
  • No privacy switch or slider for webcam

Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
The ZBook Studio G8 has a 15.6-inch, 4K multitouch OLED UWVA Display HDR 500 panel. The full Chiclet-style keyboard offers generous spacing with deep travel and clicky feedback. Bang & Olufsen-tuned speakers are some of the best to date.
Pros
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Comfortable touchpad
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3

notebookcheck[3]

Reviewer score 74% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
ZBook G8 can get louder than the competition including the Razer Blade 15 Studio and last year's ZBook Studio G7. Surface temperatures are symmetrical due to the symmetric cooling solution within. The integrated quad speakers (2x tweeters + 2x woofers) provide excellent sound with good balance.
Pros
  • Sleek, premium design
  • High-quality OLED panel
  • Long battery life
Cons
  • No webcam shutter

pcmag[4]

Reviewer score 89% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The HP ZBook Studio G8 comes close to unseating the Dell Precision 5560 for our Editors' Choice award among lightweight mobile workstations. The Studio's OLED screen delivered dazzling color fidelity and satisfying if not exceptional brightness. All five laptops smashed the 4,000-point mark that indicates superb performance for Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
Pros
  • Sleek, lightweight design
  • Gorgeous OLED screen
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • No USB Type-C ports
  • No SD card reader

theverge[5]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from theverge have found:
The HP ZBook Studio G8 is the best enterprise laptop trying to be a gaming laptop. Its OLED screen is a treat to look at, but I hope HP employs a taller 3:2 aspect ratio next time. There are a dearth of ports for a laptop of this size, and for one made to wear so many hats.
Pros
  • Gorgeous OLED screen
  • Comfortable keyboard
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 4 ports
  • No headphone jack
