Product Overview

The 2021 Gigabyte AORUS 15P KD/XD/YD is a powerful 15.6-inch gaming laptop. As it is the case with AORUS 17G, this laptop is an incremental improvement over the XC/YC models unveiled just a few months before at CES 2021 with 11th-gen Intel Core i7-11800H Tiger Lake CPU.
On the GPU side, the options are now expanded and modified. An NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU is freshly available, while the RTX 3080 chip now comes with 16GB of GDDR6 graphics memory alongside the 8GB option.
Other related updates include DDR4-3200 memory, Bluetooth 5.2, Thunderbolt 4, and PCI Express Gen4 SSD.
Another important upgrade is the addition of a 360Hz FHD IPS display option next to the 240Hz panel from last year.
Alongside the AORUS 15P, Gigabyte also refreshed other models in its premium laptop lineup with Tiger Lake processors in May 2021.

notebookcheck[1]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
The Aorus 15P YD shows average interruption times in the test with LatencyMon. It's only pushed to second place by the Asus Zephyrus G15 when it comes to the individual discipline of "Productivity". The system always runs smoothly in everyday use, and no micro stutters or similar occur. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 used here has been configured by Gigabyte with a TGP of 130 watts.
Pros
  • Matte IPS display
  • High-quality case
  • Good battery life
  • Good system performance
Cons
  • High temperatures under load
  • No Thunderbolt 3

techradar[2]

Reviewer score 64% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Gigabyte Aorus 15P YD is a great laptop for LAN parties and gaming. The 240Hz display would have benefited from a less glossy screen. 32GB of RAM is going to be overkill for anyone who is just after a laptop to play games on. The potential battery life is conflicting, and despite rigours testing we got inconsistent results.
Pros
  • Gorgeous 240Hz display
  • Excellent gaming performance
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Poor webcam placement
  • Poor webcam quality

tomshardware[3]

Reviewer score 56% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomshardware have found:
Gigabyte continues to make the extremely questionable decision of putting its 720p webcam below the hinge. As of this writing, it's out of stock, though some sites have it on a waitlist at $2,399. Gigabyte backs the Aorus 15P with a one-year warranty.
Pros
  • Strong gaming performance
  • Strong speakers
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Mediocre webcam
  • Expensive for a gaming notebook
