Product Overview

MSI GE76 Raider 11UX is a flagship-level 17.3-inch gaming laptop. Sharing much of the same features of the GE76 Raider 10UX released just a few months ago at CES 2021, the 11UX upgrades its CPU with the latest 11th-gen Intel Tiger Lake unit and, with it, adds Thunderbolt 4, WiFi 6E, and PCIe Gen4.
Otherwise, the GE76 Raider 11UX enjoys a similar list of exclusive features: The headline component is undoubtedly the RTX 30-series graphics up to RTX 3080 with 16GB graphics memory. The GE76 also offers extensive RGB lighting, thinner chassis, and a revised hinge design compared to its 2020 predecessor. The voluminous 99.9Wh battery ensures the longest battery life possible.
Users have access to a new list of display options, including a 4K panel that refreshes at 120Hz and a FHD one that bursts all the way to 360Hz. One of the two M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs is also upgraded to PCIe Gen4 x4.
Alongside the new GE76, MSI also refreshed its entire gaming laptop lineup with the new Tiger Lake processors.

MSI’s GE76 Raider is an absolute beast of a device, with the best gaming performance of any system we have ever tested. The combination of the Core i9-11980HK, GeForce RTX 3080L, and plenty of cooling allows for impressive framerates in any title. Unfortunately, the display was a bit of a let-down.

MSI GS76 Raider has ports on both sides of the chassis and along the back. It also comes with a Wi-Fi 6E card from Killer and a Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless connectivity. The keyboard is comfortable, but I found the bottoming action on the keys to be a bit too soft.

The MSI GE76 Raider 11UH is outstandingly well suited for gaming. The built-in Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 provides very high frame rates and even displays demanding titles smoothly at high resolutions and maximum detail levels. Compared to our chosen competition, MSI's gaming laptop performs at a similar level. With an average power consumption of 16 watts in idle usage, the MSIGE76 Raider UH11 proves to be more frugal than our chosen competitors.

The GE76 Raider is the first system with Nvidia’s new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. It is about 30-50% faster than laptops with the Core i9-11900H and Core i7-11800H. The storage solution is very impressive: each M.2 slot with a 2 TB version of Samsung PM9A1 SSD.

The MSI GE76 Raider isn't the ultimate 17.3-inch esports laptop it sets out to be. Its dismal brightness is unforgivable; the Alienware's panel is more than two and a half times as bright. Its screen is perhaps the biggest letdown given this laptop's size.

In terms of raw performance, the GE76 Raider is the machine to beat. The Core i9 CPU, 32GB of RAM, and Nvidia 3080 are capable of incredible things. SteelSeries’ GG app is the real star of the show, as it unlocks the full RGB customization options.

The MSI GE76 Raider runs a bit toasty while gaming. Its 1080p webcam is generally usable but still needs some improvement. There's some helpful stuff in there, but also some odd apps with questionable utility. The Raider is proving to be a strong contender for those with a desire for a premium gaming notebook.

MSI's GE76 Raider gaming laptop runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes. It runs a bit warm, though that tends to be an issue on most laptops of this caliber. It offers a fast, bright display paired with some of the most powerful mobile components. For the most serious laptop gamers, the Raider should be on their shortlist.
