Product Overview

Epson EcoTank ET-8550 is an A3+ 3-in-1 ink-tank printer optimized for photo printing. Similar to Canon's latest approach, the ET-8550 bumps the number of inks to 6 with the addition of a photo black and grey for better photo printing quality.
The EcoTank ET-8550 can be considered the successor to the ET-7550 introduced a few years back. It not only adds an additional (Grey) ink but also improves upon the ET-7550 in features.
Among these improvements is the new 10.9cm / 4.3" touch screen that brings the printer's UI to the 21st century. There is also an auto-duplexer for A4-size paper.
The EcoTank ET-8550, like its A4-sized sister, ET-8500, uses Epson's Claria ET Premium inks that offer improved durability and color reproduction compared to other EcoTank inks.
For those who prefer more features rather than pure print quality, Epson also markets the ET-16600, ET-16650, ET-16150, and ET-15000.

Reviewers from pcmag have found:
For a photo printer, the ET-8550 is extremely inexpensive to use. Epson includes two years of free ink with your purchase. If you often print full-page tabloid or supertabloid photos or art, it will be great for your bottom line. We wish it had an ADF for passing multipage documents to the scanner.

  • Excellent print quality
  • Easy to use
  • Two years of free ink
Cons
  • High running costs

techradar[2]

Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Epson EcoTank ET-8550 is a pleasure to use thanks to the large intuitive touchscreen interface and smooth, quiet operation. The optimised print resolution of 5,760 x 1,400 dpi is impressive, while the scan resolution is not much lower at 1,200 x 4,800 dpi. It prints mono A4 pages quickly at 32ppm (pages per minute), though that slows right down in auto duplex mode. While it prints slowly, it also prints very quietly.
Pros
  • Excellent print quality
  • Easy to use
  • Large touchscreen
Cons
  • Slow print speed
  • No automatic duplexing
