Product Overview

Sonos One Gen 2 is a wireless speaker that supports Apple AirPlay 2, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa. Like other Sonos speakers, the One can be paired with other Sonos speakers and soundbars either wirelessly via WiFi or wired via LAN to form a multi-speaker sound system.
Thanks to the flexibility that its form factor affords, the Sonos One can be moved around in your house, used either as an interface with your voice assistants or in a sound system for music enjoyment. Two Sonos Ones together gives you an easy stereo system without the need of a separate amplifier.
Naturally, the One's largely plastic construction and class-D amplifiers may not appeal to enthusiasts, but for the undiscerning listener it likely is enough.

The Sonos One is the first smart speaker designed with music in mind. The One debuted with Amazon's Alexa voice assistant on-board, and in 2019 Sonos added Google Assistant. Despite some teething problems and a slight lag when requesting songs, voice integration on Sonos works very well.

The Sonos One can get pretty loud for its size, but you shouldn't expect powerful low-end to come out of its small frame. It easily outshines comparably priced voice assistant speakers like the Amazon Echo and Google Home. Alexa has a slight edge in third-party voice control skills, and supports a wider selection of smart home devices. Google Assistant works a bit better than Alexa at understanding natural speech.

The Sonos One has a slightly boomy sound profile, though it struggles to reproduce a thumpy low-bass. It also has to downmix stereo content into mono, which doesn't sound very immersive. On the upside, the companion app offers bass and treble sliders so that you can adjust its sound to your liking.

The Sonos One has six internal microphones to allow it to hear you drunkenly ask to play ‘Hey, Jude' just one more time. It also has a pair of Class-D amplifiers and a tweeter / mid-woofer driver combo. You can also, thanks to the recently released Sonos Alexa skill, use voice commands to get music playing on other Sonos speakers. It's backed by the same great Sonos app that has seen continuous improvement.

The Sonos One speakers sound amazing for their size. From ABBA to Frank Zappa, anything I threw at the Sonos speakers came through spectacularly. Sonos' strengths are that it opens up world of other sources, including Apple Music. You can also control Spotify playback through the speaker using Alexa.

The Sonos One is one of the best smart speakers on the market. Soundstage is spacious and impressively organised, with vocals given plenty of breathing room. You can also use the One as a surround speaker for a Sonos Beam, PlayBase or PlayBar system, with or without a subwoofer.
