Product Overview
Sonos Move is the marque's first wireless speaker designed for both indoors and outdoors. Like other Sonos speakers, the Move supports both WiFi and Bluetooth and integrates a range of smart speaker functions.
As such, the Move is also the first Sonos speaker powered by battery. In this case, a large 36Wh unit that is able to drive the powerful speaker for 11 hours. It features a sleek, oval design in a case engineered to be tough, able to withstand falls, bumps, moisture, dust, UV, and extreme temperature. Its robustness is certified by an IP56 rating.
The Move comes with an elegant charging stand that allows it to be integrated seamlessly when it is being charged.
Naturally, the Move can pair with other Sonos speakers via WiFi to form a multi-speaker audio system.
In 2021, Sonos introduced another portable wireless smart speaker, the Roam.

External Reviews
cnet[1]
Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)At 9.44 inches tall and 6.6 pounds, the Move is significantly larger than the Sonos One. It's Wi-Fi-enabled and can be linked to other Sonos speakers in your home system. Its sound isn't big enough to power an outdoor dance party, but it will fill a patio with music.
Pros
- Tough, durable exterior
- Great Wi-Fi connectivity
- Built-in rechargeable battery
Cons
- Dirt and other particles found in the grille
digitaltrends[2]
Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)Sonos Move is a portable Bluetooth speaker with 10-hours of battery life. It's a Wi-Fi speaker with AirPlay 2, and a smart speaker with your choice of Alex or Google Assistant onboard. At $399, the Sonos Move isn't as affordable as some had wished it would be.
Pros
- Excellent battery life
- Easy to use
- Built-in Alexa and Google Assistant
Cons
- Lacks Bluetooth bells and whistles
nextpit[3]
Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)Sonos Move is a durable, battery-powered smart speaker for taking your music on the go. As well as being part of the Sonos system on Wi-Fi, it also has Bluetooth. The speaker features two Class-D digital amplifiers, one downward-firing tweeter, and one mid-woofer. Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are built right in.
Pros
- Powerful sound
- Bluetooth audio streaming
- Compact design
Cons
- Battery life could be better
pcmag[4]
Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move is a powerful multi-room speaker with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It works with an app that allows you to tweak the sound signature to a degree. While Bluetooth is instrumental in allowing you to use the speaker on the go, so is its built-in battery.
Pros
- Sculpted, sculpted sound signature
- Voice control with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant
- Built-in battery
Cons
- No speakerphone
rtings[5]
Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move has a very well-balanced sound profile and is suitable for a wide variety of music genres. Unfortunately, the soundstage is quite narrow due to its mono design, but it still performs decently for a non-360-degree speaker. It has a room correction feature that can be used to calibrate its audio delivery when connected to Wi-Fi.
Pros
- Very well-balanced sound profile
- Decently loud
- Good battery life
Cons
- Not a full 360-degree speaker
- Soundstage isn't the widest
t3[6]
Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move sounds very good in all but the most unpromising locations, and very much like the Sonos One in more favourable conditions. It projects a lot of bass from a relatively small box, and has a much wider sound field, although not full 360º sonic projection. The mixture of downward firing tweeter and well-braced woofer – braced so that dropping it doesn't destroy it – seems to cover a multitude of lower quality sources.
Pros
- Great sound quality
- Automatic TruePlay room tuning
- Great battery life
Cons
- No aptX support
- App is unwieldy
techadvisor[7]
Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move is the first Sonos speaker with Auto Trueplay. This means the speaker can tune itself based on its surroundings. The sound quality is excellent with a rich feel that has powerfull bass. It's loud so it can serve well as an outdoor speaker for parties in even large gardens or if you take it to the park.
Pros
- Great sound quality
- Easy to use
- Works with two devices simultaneously
Cons
- Can’t be used as a rear surround speaker
techradar[8]
Reviewer score 89% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move is very much a match for the Sonos home range, but let loose thanks to its battery. The mid-range driver offers forceful and space-filling low end, even when competing with the acoustics of a wide open space. There's no drop off in vocal clarity that can often occur with lesser portable speakers. The speaker more than holds its own in the great outdoors too.
Pros
- Powerful audio performance
- Powerful TruePlay system
- Easy to use
Cons
- Battery life could be better
tomsguide[9]
Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move packs two popular virtual assistants: Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The Move's battery life lives up to Sonos promise of 10 hours on a full charge. With an IP56 rating, the Move is dustproof and waterproof enough to withstand coarse sand or a rainy night when forgotten outside.
Pros
- Excellent sound quality
- Built-in Alexa and Google Assistant
- Good battery life
Cons
- No call or Alexa Drop-In
trustedreviews[10]
Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move sounds very good, has plenty of features and is simple to use. 2.4GHz and 5.6GHz wireless bands are supported, but Bluetooth is only 4.2. Compared to the Marshall Tufton speaker, the Move has plenty more detail than its ‘outdoor’ counterpart. It can lose its composure at high volumes, but if you’re in a big, open space, this is unlikely to be an issue. A price of £400 is a steep price to pay for a portable speaker.
Pros
- Powerful sound
- Easy to use
- Good battery life
Cons
- No Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity
- Not the most detailed performer
whathifi[11]
Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move has all the streaming smarts and app support of its siblings. It has direct access to over 30 music services, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Tidal and Deezer. You can add full compatibility with Sonos's own app to that list, as well as Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay 2.
Pros
- Sleek, portable design
- Easy to set up and use
- Automatic Trueplay
Cons
- Battery life could be better
wired[12]
Reviewer score 93% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Sonos Move delivers on most of its portable promise, but its limitations have occasionally frustrated me. Though the Bluetooth works well, you won't be able to use the Sonos app to play music or control the speaker settings unless you're on your home Wi-Fi. Some Alexa Skills and Google Assistant features that won't work with Sonos.
Pros
- Easy to set up and use
- Powerful bass
- Works with Alexa and Google Assistant
Cons
- Can get wet
- Touch controls can get nuts
