Product Overview

Kia EV6 (chassis code CV) is the sister model of Hyundai's IONIQ 5 compact electric crossover. The first battery electric vehicle in Kia's lineup, it shares with the IONIQ 5 the all-new pure-electric Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This dedicated platform ensures optimized packaging and handling characteristics compared to EVs based on a conventional platform.
The EV6 is available in three trim levels and two battery capacities. The EV6 GT offers 430kW of power and 740Nm of torque that propel the vehicle to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds.
Unlike the first electric vehicles released by most competitors, the EV6 uses a distinct design language similar to yet different from Hyundai's IONIQ 5.
Hyundai's new E-GMP platform supports both 400V and 800V charging, with fast charging at 350kW capable of delivering a 10-80% charge in just 18 minutes.
Technology-wise, the EV6 comes with what you would expect from an electric vehicle from South Korea. That is to say a full set of connected-car features, augmented reality features (AR Head-Up-Display), and driver assist features are available.

Reviewer score 69%
Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
Kia’s E-GMP architecture and the EV6 has continued the good work of the Ioniq 5. Despite its 250bhp deficit compared with the eventual hot version, the point-to-point pace of this twin-motor car is impressive even if you’ve spent a lot of time in electric cars – especially in addictive but inefficient Sport mode. There are a good many more cars to come to the market, but we’re excited about the Kia EV6.

Pros
  • Powerful twin-motor engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment
Cons
  • Slightly stiff suspension
  • No wireless smartphone mirroring

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
Kia has big plans to establish itself as an all-electric car company by 2040, and to become fully carbon-neutral by 2045. Its battery-powered EV6 flagship is a key model in helping the Korean manufacturer achieve its aim of electric and plug-in hybrid power making up 40 per cent of the company’s total sales by 2030. The EV6 is more of a sporty family crossover than a traditional SUV, but finds itself up against the likes of the mechanically similar Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Pros
  • Fast-charging capability
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of standard equipment

autoexpress[3]

Reviewer score 72%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The EV6 sits on the same bespoke pure-electric platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Genesis’s forthcoming GV60. It can replenish 80 per cent of its 77.4kWh usable battery in just 18 minutes. The top speed remains at 114mph, but the 0-62mph time is now a punchy 5.2 seconds, a gain of more than two seconds over the rear-wheel-drive edition.

Pros
  • Fantastic electric power
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lacklustre ride quality
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive

wired[4]

Reviewer score 60%
Reviewers from wired have found the following***:
The EV6 has a shorter wheelbase than the 5 (2.9 meters versus 3 meters), so it's supposedly slightly better in corners. The car is quick, but this is not a performance car that will give you almost shocking acceleration. The cabin is like a Sith version of its gleaming white Hyundai sibling. Black and dark hues everywhere, but none of the extras.

Pros
  • Sleek styling
  • Excellent range
  • Excellent fuel economy
Cons
  • Not fun to drive
  • No Apple CarPlay
