Apple iMac 24"
All-in-One PCProduct Gallery
Product Overview
The 2021 iMac 24 joins the MacBook Pro 13 and MacBook Air from last year in adopting Apple's proprietary M1 chip. It boasts a new, iPad-like design that is just 11.5mm thin while offering a performance boost over its predecessor.
True to iMac's tradition, the iMac 24 includes a FHD FaceTime camera, stereo microphones, and a six-speaker sound system with two tweeters and four woofers.
What is different is the colorful chassis that cuts the volume of the iMac 24 by half. The base, 7-core GPU model is available in four colors, while buyers of the 8-core GPU model can choose among seven colors.
Inside, the M1 chip comes with an 8-core CPU with four efficiency cores and four high-performance cores. Apple boasts 85% faster CPU performance over the Intel CPU found in the 21.5-inch iMac. The 16-core Apple Neural Engine further makes apps that use machine learning up to 3x faster.

arstechnica[1]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)The 24-inch iMac is laced with nostalgia and fan service for Apple die-hards. At its core, it's a desktop MacBook Air with a bigger, more beautiful screen. This is the best desktop Mac for most people, and that's something we don't see changing imminently.
Pros
- Gorgeous 24-inch screen
- Great battery life
Cons
- More expensive than the higher-end 27-inch model
macworld[2]
Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)The 24-inch iMac is the first desktop Mac to finally get biometric security authentication with Touch ID. Apple bundles the iMac with Magic Keyboards that have a Touch ID button located on the upper right corner. The iMac completes Apple’s consumer Mac lineup and sits alongside the Mac $699 and $899 M1 Mac mini models in the desktop category.
Pros
- Sleek, sleek design
- Great performance
- Touch ID Magic Keyboard works on M1 Macs
Cons
- Not as powerful as Intel-based iMacs
ndtv[3]
Reviewer score 74% (normalized by Neofiliac)The new iMac brings us back to design as the centre of everything. It looks great and works brilliantly for everyday tasks and even some creative production workflows. The display is excellent, the speakers are good, and everything just works right out of the box. But this design introduces and perpetuates plenty of compromises that desktop computers simply should not make.
Pros
- Gorgeous 4.5K display
- Excellent performance
- Excellent speakers
Cons
- Expensive configuration options
- No Thunderbolt 3
notebookcheck[4]
Reviewer score 76% (normalized by Neofiliac)The 23.5-inch display offers a very high resolution of 4,480 x 2,520 pixels with a pixel density of 218 PPI. Apple was able to reduce the black value, which is why the contrast ratio (>1,400:1) is also better. The iMac 24 is an extremely responsive system, but the old Intel models offer even more performance, especially in multi-core tests.
Pros
- Very good IPS display
- Very good battery life
- Good maintenance options
Cons
- Very loud under load
pcmag[5]
Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)The 24-inch iMac is a welcome tribute to the iMac's origins. Switching to an external power brick and adopting the M1 processor confers impressive design changes. Apple's first major iMac redesign turns into a gorgeous computer with multiple color options, and a stunningly thin exterior. It's neither the most powerful nor most powerful, but it's the best one for everyday computing.
Pros
- Powerful M1 processor
- Punchy, peppy design
- Sleek, lightweight design
Cons
- No color options
- No M1-native version
t3[6]
Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)The iMac 24-inch is a fun, fast, desirable desktop, with a gorgeous screen. There's more than enough power here for the average user, and the M1 chip is powerful enough to allow some major headroom beyond that. It's a really great package, with its only potential irritations being the lack of port variation, its limited GPU power, and Apple's cheap approach to RAM.
Pros
- Gorgeous screen
- Powerful M1 chip
- Excellent speakers
Cons
- No port variation
- Limited port selection
techradar[7]
Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)The new iMac (24-inch, 2021) can run iOS and iPadOS apps and games. There's also a studio-quality three-mic array, which produces some excellent results thanks to its advanced noise-cancellation feature. The 4.5K Retina display is the highest-resolution display that comes with an M1-toting Mac.
Pros
- Gorgeous 4.5K Retina display
- Excellent performance
- Excellent webcam
Cons
- No webcam, microphones or speakers
- No webcam or microphone
theverge[8]
Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)The iMac has a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, which has a higher resolution than the 720p shooter that lives in the 21.5-inch iMac. The six-speaker sound system is easily on par with a good external speaker. Most folks won't need the specs and accessories that I tested here, but even $1,299 is certainly more than plenty of people want to spend.
Pros
- Sleek, attractive design
- Great performance
- Great webcam
Cons
- Not for everyone
tomsguide[9]
Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)Like most Macs, the new 24-inch iMac isn't built to deliver great performance in the latest games. The M1 chip allows it to natively run iOS apps, which you can access directly through the App Store. The entry-level iMac ships with a TouchID-less Magic Keyboard by default.
Pros
- Gorgeous 4.5K display
- Great speakers
- Lots of ports
Cons
- M1 chip isn’t great for 3D games
- No vertical height adjustment
trustedreviews[10]
Reviewer score 92% (normalized by Neofiliac)This review unit is one of the higher-end models, with 16GB RAM and an 8-core GPU. Big Sur OS is smooth and quick, with apps starting quickly and multitasking a breeze. The lack of a real dedicated GPU will likely put those off who want a machine purely for video work. Included with the iMac 2021 is a keyboard and mouse. If you want the Magic Trackpad, you can add that instead of the Magic Mouse for £50/$50 or £129/$129.
Pros
- Great performance
- Great keyboard and mouse
- Great battery life
Cons
- No dedicated GPU
- No Thunderbolt 3
wired[11]
Reviewer score 88% (normalized by Neofiliac)The new iMac is a great little machine that excels in its simplicity. As someone who usually uses an ultrawide monitor, the 24-inch screen on the iMac feels cramped. Still, I've been able to make it work, with Safari front and center and Slack and Telegram readily accessible in the background.
Pros
- Gorgeous, colorful screen
- Sleek design
- Great battery life
Cons
- Can't adjust the height of the screen
