ASUS ROG Strix TRX40-E Gaming is an ATX motherboard based on AMD's TRX40 chipset and designed for 3rd-gen Ryzen Threadripper processors. Months after its release, ASUS also introduced the TRX40-XE, which upgrades the VRM of TRX40-E with 16 power stages with 70A capacitors.
The ROG Strix TRX40-E Gaming is essentially the ATX version of the Zenith II Extreme, sharing with it much of the same features. Some of the compromises in the smaller motherboard include:
- A downgrade of the second LAN from 10Gbps to 2.5Gbps
- The omission of the USB 3.2 Gen2X2 port
- The loss of the ESS Sabre DAC
- The loss of DIMM.2 module for SSD
As the Threadripper offers considerably more PCIe 4 lanes as well as quad-channel DDR4 memory, the ROG Strix TRX40-E allows the user to use up to 256GB of memory, ECC or otherwise, and 2-way multi-GPU setup (SLI or CrossFire).
This ROG Strix motherboard also comes with a color OLED display with extensive Aura Sync RGB lighting. There are even two additional RGB headers and two addressable headers for more customizability in custom builds.
