Product Overview

Intel Core i5-11400 is an entry-level desktop microprocessor in Intel's 11th-gen Core, Rocket Lake family. Unlike higher-powered SKUs, the i5-11400 and its derivative the i5-11400T only use Intel UHD 730 graphics, which is an additional step down besides the frequency decrease.
Like its predecessor and other i5 models this year, the i5-11400 comes with 6 cores and 12 threads. Intel claims that up to 22% IPC (instructions per clock) increase may be observed over the 10th-gen Comet Lake units under the best-case scenarios.
The new Rocket Lake processors support DDR4-3200MHz memories, though the i5-11400 defaults to 2:1 ratio of DRAM to memory controller at this frequency. Intel also includes PCIe 4.0 support with up to 20 lanes.
Alongside the i5-11400, Intel also markets the Core i5-11400F. The "F" designation means the i5-11400F does not come with the integrated graphics. There is also a low-powered i5-11400T with 35W TDP rather than the 65W TDP of the base model; it also offers a TDP-down mode that is missing from the base i5-11400.

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomshardware have found:
The Core i5-11400 comes with a stock cooler, but as with all Intel coolers, it's a flimsy affair that most enthusiasts should plan on replacing. The 11400 supports 20 lanes of PCIe 4.0, with four dedicated to one M.2 slot. Only the Core i9 chips support DDR4-3200 in an optimal configuration at stock settings.
Pros
  • Excellent overclocking performance
  • Low power consumption
  • Supports PCIe 4.0
Cons
  • Limited overclocking options
  • No integrated graphics
