Product Overview

Samsung Galaxy A72 is an affordable alternative to the South Korean company's 2021 Galaxy S21 Plus: It comes with the latter a similar design, including the 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED display.
The tradeoffs with the Galaxy A72 are exactly the same as it is with the Galaxy A52: In terms of compromises, the A72 has a slower processor, a lower IP rating (IP67 rather than IP68), a lower display refresh rate at 90Hz, a downgrade of USB-C to 2.0, and a omission of WiFi 6 in favor of WiFi 5.
On the other hand, it adds a fourth camera in the back, including an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, upgrades the selfie camera to 32MP, and keeps the microSD card support.
Unlike the A52, the Galaxy A72 is only available with LTE.

The Galaxy A72's internal component set isn't the most powerful one in this mid-range category. However, it does offer a good level of performance. Samsung's software is extremely versatile with many available customization options. The camera suite is versatile and unique in the A-series smartphones.

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
Samsung's Galaxy A72 has the best prerequisites to continue the success of its predecessor. It has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 90 Hz, immense brightness and IP67 certification. Despite the SoC change, the new Samsung is not noticeably faster than its predecessor, the Galaxy A71. Other advantages are the versatile camera and the very good runtimes.
Pros
  • Bright AMOLED display
  • Fast SoC
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No IP certification
  • Slow SoC

phonearena[4]

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from phonearena have found:
The Galaxy A72 is rumored to come in four fresh colors: Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Violet, and Awesome Blue. It will reportedly feature a quad-camera setup just like its predecessor with a main sensor of 64MP. To complement the main camera, we will reportedly be getting a 12 MP Ultra-wide shooter, and two additional sensors. The difference here is the addition of the 8MP telephoto lens.
Pros
  • Super AMOLED display
  • 90Hz refresh rate
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No headphone jack
  • No IP67 water and dust rating
