Product Overview

OnePlus 8T is OnePlus's late-2020 flagship smartphone powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset. It shares much of the same features of the OnePlus 8, sharing with it not only the same chipset but also the 6.55-inch OLED display and LPDDR4x memory setup.
Nevertheless, the OnePlus 8T comes with a number of upgrades: At the back, the macro camera now features a 5MP sensor, a bump from the 2MP unit from the earlier model; a new 2MP monochrome camera is added, too, resulting in a distinct rear design.
Performance-wise, the 6.55-inch OLED display in the OnePlus 8T now refreshes at 120Hz, just like the OnePlus 8 Pro. Faster, UFS 3.1 storage is used in lieu of the UFS 3.0 unit. To power these upgrades, OnePlus has endowed the 8T with an increase in battery capacity to 4500mAh, while 65W Warp Charge is newly available, providing up to a day's usage with just 15 minutes of charge.
Naturally, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and 5G connectivity options are retained. Its X55 Dual Mode 5G modem is able to seamlessly switch between LTE and 5G networks to save battery without sacrificing performance.

External Reviews

androidauthority[1]

Reviewer score 41% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from androidauthority have found:
The design of the OnePlus 8T is generic to a fault. Images produced from the primary 47MP f/1.7 sensor tend to be oversharpened and contrasty. The ultra-wide camera suffers from the same issues as the primary lens, but it is significantly less detailed and sharp.
Pros
  • Great value for money
  • Decent camera performance
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Uninspired design
  • No IP rating
  • No wireless charging

digitaltrends[2]

Reviewer score 76% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The OnePlus 8T will be available starting October 23, with pre-orders beginning on October 14. The phone will cost $749 for the 12GB/256GB model, and it does not appear the 8GB/128GB model will be sold in the U.S. For now, it's very similar to most other always-on screens. The feature that will make it different, called Canvas, is still to come in a software update.
Pros
  • Beautiful design
  • Water resistance and wireless charging
  • Superfast charging
  • Great camera
Cons
  • No IP rating
  • No water resistance or wireless charging

laptopmag[3]

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
The OnePlus 8T runs Android 11 with OxygenOS 11 on top of it, which is a relatively minimal skin. The cameras proved too unreliable for me to want to use this device; it's not that they can't produce an excellent image at times, the cameras simply aren't consistent. I'd recommend the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, iPhone 12 or iPhone 5 in this price range.
Pros
  • Solid performance
  • Good battery life
  • Solid cameras
Cons
  • No telephoto lens
  • No microSD card slot

nextpit[4]

Reviewer score 90% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from nextpit have found:
The OnePlus 8T is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 chipset. The big news is not a hidden camera under the screen as I had hoped, but the Warp Charge 65 feature. This 65W fast charge (only with the dedicated charger, otherwise it 'plods' along at 27W) is supposed to be able to charge the phone from 0 to 100% in 39 minutes.
Pros
  • The best SoC on the market
  • Very good battery life
  • Fast charging
Cons
  • No IP certification
  • No wireless charging

notebookcheck[5]

Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from notebookcheck have found:
The OnePlus 8T is equipped with a Snapdragon 865. This is one of the fastest SoCs available at the moment, after all. Gaming at 60 fps is no longer an illusion with the fast SoC. The very fast UFS 3.1 storage is very satisfactory despite our benchmarks not indicating significant speed improvements.
Pros
  • Very good battery life
  • Very fast SoC
  • Very good cameras
  • Fast UFS 3.1 storage
Cons
  • Display could be brighter
  • No IP certification

pcmag[6]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The OnePlus 8T is a good phone, to be sure, but it isn't convincingly better than the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. The camera does slow-mo, time-lapse, and it has solid bokeh for both stills and videos. The 8T approximates 2x zoom by cropping its 48MP sensor to a 12MP shot.
Pros
  • Great battery life
  • Good low-light performance
  • Solid software
Cons
  • Mediocre cameras
  • No wireless charging

techadvisor[7]

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techadvisor have found:
The 8T has been adjusted down compared to the 8. The 8GB/128GB model costs just £549, while the 12GB/256GB model is £649/$749. Outside the US the steepest competition comes from the £379 OnePlus Nord. It offers the same main camera, a 90Hz AMOLED panel, the same RAM and storage, and a better selfie camera setup.
Pros
  • 90Hz AMOLED display
  • Good battery life
  • Good selfie camera
Cons
  • No 120Hz refresh rate display
  • No IP68 rating

techradar[8]

Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
There's no dedicated telephoto camera here, as you'll find on some other top-end phones, but we found the built-in digital zoom worked well for most situations. The camera began to struggle a little in low-light scenarios, but the detail of most images we took still looked good. You can shoot 4K video at either 30 or 60 frames per second on the rear camera, with super slow motion available at 720p, and a timelapse mode. On the front of the phone is a 16MP front-facing camera, and we found this more than suitable for video calling as well as taking selfies.
Pros
  • Powerful processor
  • Good battery life
  • Fast charging
Cons
  • No microSD expansion
  • No telephoto camera

tomsguide[9]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
The OnePlus 8T comes with Android 11, which brings features such as media controls embedded into the drop-down menu and new screenshot controls. OxygenOS 11 also brings in an always-on display that can be configured to display a mix of notifications and clock styles. There is also a fresh dark mode that adjusts color tones and menu layers to make content easier to read. The under-display fingerprint scanner on the 8T remains as responsive as ever. And Face Unlock is a solid alternative to finger-based biometrics, though you should bear in mind that it's still not as secure as Apple's Face ID. But the $749 price tag is too much, given the competition, and disappointing camera performance has made the8T a letdown.
Pros
  • Fantastic 120Hz display
  • Good battery life
  • Good cameras
Cons
  • No wireless charging
  • No 120Hz refresh rate

trustedreviews[10]

Reviewer score 90% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The 8T can take good looking snaps that have a real social-media pop. It has a load of features and focal lengths and is very fast to use. If camera performance is your biggest desire then you might be better off looking at the Pixel 4a or 5. Battery life is, on the whole, very good, but it's the phone’s seriously impressive charging skills that stand out more.
Pros
  • Fantastic battery life
  • Fast charging
  • Good cameras
Cons
  • No 5G
  • No wireless charging

wired[11]

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from wired have found:
The T-Mobile OnePlus 8T has an IP68 rating, and there are no differences between the models. In low light, the 8T holds its own over phones like the Pixel 5 with its dedicated Nightscape mode. But at $750 for the 128-gigabyte model, it's not the best phone for the money.
Pros
  • Powerful performance
  • Strong battery life
  • Good cameras
  • Warp Charge 65
Cons
  • No IP rating for water resistance
  • No wireless charging
